I saw this on the way to work this morning, and it always worries me, from watching those 999 programmes over the years I do know from experience the only time the driver pulls over and leaves the wheel is when the condition of the patient is critical and the lone medic in the back is stuggling to stablise the patient alone.

So basically when you see them pulled over with the lights flashing you know the worst is happening in the back of the van, you just can't see, it brings a chill to know I'm passing by someone dying on my way to work, I'm thinking about what the day will hold for me, what post I will gat into the office, what phonecalls, and what I might have for lunch, when really life is such a fragile exsistance and I take things for granted.

Hi what..the? I give it more than a passing thought when I see and hear a flashing ambulance too . I always have the two of them seeing to me when I need an emergency ambulance , one is putting in a line while the other is doing the electrodes , oxygen , and pcO2 . As yet I'm still here to tell the tale ....fingers crossed xxx
Aww I know what you mean What..The....

I witnessed a woman on the pavement dying once and had to call the ambulance.. a stranger was giving her mouth to mouth and it was horrific! Then everyday I had to drive past the same spot it brought back awful memories....

If it should teach us anything - it should be to be grateful for what we have.... and to appreciate it and to not waste it.. Try to have a nice day!!!!
One of my worst days was when I walking back from the shops, when on the corner where I lived, I thought at first somebody had dropped an old coat, as other people were walking past or steping over it. When I got close I realised that it was an old man. Now okay, he DID smell of drink but people stepping OVER him -I went to the phonebox and called an ambulance, which came and took him away. I telephoned the hospital later on that evening and they told me that he'd died an hour previously, and did I know who he was or where he lived - I didn't , but I later learned that a call to the police from the man's wife to say she was worried because he hadn't come home solvd the problem.
It might not have been something so bad,it could have been a woman in labour and the baby was not prepared to wait until they reached the hospital to make an appearance.

Thats true daffy.

Thats terrible mercia that really breaks my heart for that poor man and his wife, at least the wife wasn't there the witness peoples disrespect like that, I wouldnt think she would forget it like you. You were good to call from the phone box though well done for that. At least he was off the street and someone cared in the end.
Hi what..the?, I hate the sound of the sirens on ambulances etc and what you say is so correct, my son was in a real bad accident 5 years ago and the sounds of sirens makes me go cold, so I would say to anybody get your life in perspective and tell the ones you love them the day before you die, and never forget, that one day will be your last here.. you might think what is he on about, tell the ones you love them the day before you die, when you don't know when you will die, that just means tell them every day.
i know what you mean about the ambulance thing, my father-in-law was the person in the back of an ambulance being worked on at the roadside to save his life, they had a crash team also meet them by the road side. its chilling, unfortunately he died in hospital a few hrs later. i have alot of admiration for the medics that tried in vail to save the life of a man who was not only too young but certainly not ready to die. it was a freak accident, household appliance accidentally fell on him fracturing his scull on boxing day 2006. still dearly missed and our children still say goodnight to their grandad in the stars.
I still have awful visions of one day about three years ago when I was amongst a crowd of people who saw a young boy knocked over by a lorry. For one terrible moment, I thought it was my own son, as he was similarly dressed, with very light hair. Half a dozen peole just stood there in shock, so I ran over to him and held his hand whilst someone called for an ambulance. The poor child was awake at first, but was bleeding from his mouth and wounds. Suddenly, he had a fit and fell into unconsciousness. He never regained it, and died in the back of the ambulance. I can't carry on writing about this, because it was one of the worst things I'd ever witnessed, and I cried for that poor child for several days. Every single day, I tell my own children that I love them, and wave to them until they're out of sight when they go off to school. Needless to say, I have the utmost respect for the Ambulance Service and medical teams.
