Terry Wogan - Racist comments?

This morning Wogan kept making reference to someone reporting on some sporting event (cricket or golf) yesterday, and apparently they said someone had a 'chink in their armour'. He mentioned it several times and obviously thought it was funny. I can't believe someone didn't take offense and report it. Have to say I wasn't offended, but knowing how PC things are these days I was surprised.

Its an idiom implying they have a small problem that could cause a large issue. Based around the fact that if you have a chink your armour, in all likelihood you could die.

I don't get your racist reference. Are you seeing something in the phrase. If so, perhaps it could be your implied racism at fault, not Tel's ad lib.
Oh, for goodness sake, do get a grip! PC is bad enough, without people finding it where is isn't.
Very common idiom:

if someone or something which seems to be strong has a chink in their armour, they have a small fault which may cause them problems. eg She's a brilliant businesswoman, but her lack of political awareness may be the chink in her armour.

I truly cannot see anything racist in this remark either.
Racist? hello?
you think that is racist? good grief! did you campaign against the use of the word "blackboard" too?
Unfortunately, you are showing your ignorance and lack of education if you believe this phrase is in anyway racist.

He was not laughing at the whole phrase (which incidentally I did understand) but kept going on about the 'chink' which where I come from was a name for either a Chinese person or a Chinese meal - going for a 'chink or ******. Just a bit surprised that as this was the Beeb someone didn't react.
Oh sara that is so yesterday, we have interactive whiteboards now.
I believe you are referring to '******' which probably still is an ethnic slur. What is your beef with Terry? Is it because he is Irish?
I think Lankeela was seeking to highlight the absurdity of the "false PC" environment that prevails nowadays.

Give her a break.

see, even AB thinks it is chink y, rather than what you have peratined.
Baa Baa black sheep - they stopped them singing it at school, for goodness sake! I couldn't believe it when I heard. Children of that age don't think like that, do they?
I am indeed the black sheep of my family. I mentioned this to a Rasta friend of mine and he nearly wet himself laughing. He even offered me some black paint from his garage. Many people are not as racially sensitive as the government thinks they are.

Thanks joggerjayne, I was beginning to wish I had not mentioned it! Don't know why AB doesn't like the word chinkee.
Has anyone else noticed that most of the supposedly put-upon minorities don't give a stuff what they are called?

Call most of my Chinese friends a "ch*nkie" and they will laugh. But the tweed wearing middle classes will all wave their arms in horror.

because that could be deemed offensive, perhaps!
They have not stopped singing Baa Baa Black Sheep at schools.

Whoever 'they' are.

Yes, you may find links referring to it, but please read them. You will see there is no universal ban on that nursery rhyme and the majority of nursery and play schools still sing it.
I take offence to you assuming I wear tweed.
I take offence to you suggesting that I was referring to you, Octavius.

:-)
