Will the Elgin Marbles ever be returned to Scotland?
After the Highland Clearances, they were given to a Greek general, by an English lord for his help in defeating the Scots. Despite many pleas from the people of Scotland, the Greek government still refuses to hand them back. The minister for culture, Irene Papas keeps promising the matter is high on her agenda, but to date nothing has been done. David Cameron who�s father is a well respected Scottish doctor has promised his support when he becomes Prime Minister, but I fear this may be too late, as his drug addiction will have taken its toll, we can only wait and see.

I don't know where you did your reserch for you question, but you have it completely wrong.
Thomas Bruce 7th Earl of Elgin & 11th Earl of Kincardine, British Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire (1799-1803) removed these Marbles from the Parthenon in Athens and other buildings, saving them from destruction by the Turks who then controlled Greece.
He shipped the Marbles to England between 1802-1812, the final shipment reached London in 1812. The entire collection was aquired from Elgin by the Crown for the sum of �35,000. They are now in the British Museum, and the Greek goverment are still trying to get them returned to Greece.
