across the top of my chest a little way. It has started going up the left side of my neck as well. Had it 24/7 for at least a month. The only bit of relief I get is if I lie in bed on that shoulder then the pain is not quite as bad.

Anyone any idea what it can be? Don't shout at me for not going to the doc please, I'll cry!

Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Zapain all useless.
DOCTOR! (Sorry x) :o)

Wish I could suggest something.
do you have full shoulder movement & does that hurt?
Don't cry! I agree with Naomi.
did anything precede the pain? An injury?
also, as far as i recall, the same nerves that ennervate the shoulder also ennervate the liver - have you any lver problems?
This is not a diagnosis....but I had terrible pain in my right shoulder affecting my neck and even into my head. No pain-killers helped - GP diagnosed polymyalgia rheumatica and started me on steroids...pain gone in a few days. Then weaned off steroids gradually...not taking them now and pain-free.

Yes I have full shoulder movement Dave.

I don't remember bn, but that doesn't mean something didn't happen:-(

Right Naomi and Hazlinny, I've just remembered I have to go for a Chest XRay within 3 weeks so I'll go tomorrow and see if that shows anything.

Thanks ginge.
Hang on bn while I look up liver problems.

If it makes any difference I do have severe COPD.
Don't know if any of this will help but I must be a very brave soldier.
I hadn't realised it's been going on so long.

No liver problems.
I'm thinking it might be like ginge's. Was yours a gnawing pain ginge?
COPD related pain is mostly found in shoulders, neck, lower back and chest - so sayeth Google.
Its not your heart.
It's not your liver.
It is almost certainly musculoskeletal....old age, wear and tear.
What dose of Paracetamol and/or Ibuprofen were you taking?
Question Author
Perhaps I've had Covid without knowing it Dougie.

Sorry got caught up sorting out the carpet man laying a new carpet for me.

That'd be it sqad I reckon. I get 200mg Ibuprofen but I notice now Waitrose sell an Express one at 256mg. Would that made a lot of difference? Paracetamol 500 mg is my usual but I see they sell a Para Plus of 500/65 or there is a Panadol Extra Advance but still 500/65???
Confused of Hove.
You need at least 1,000mgms of Paracetamol probably at least 3 times a day and Ibuprofen 500mgms two or three times a day.......not necessarily together.
It will settle.
Hope it settles down soon for you, LB. Try not to do any heavy lifting and up the painkillers, like sqad advised. x
Shoulder joint arthritis. ?
Question Author
Wow that's a big difference. I've been taking only 4 tablets of one or the other (whichever is nearest) over the whole day. Thank you so much sqad. And Patsy.

I shall start now.
