I was in a shop this morning buying a few groceries. I used my debit card and after packing the shopping walked away without the card.
I phoned them and they say someone handed it in which is a relief.
Has anyone else done something similar?

happens every day
fren did it three times in a month

you can ask your bank for a card without the automatic clicker ( which we now have)
Oh yes Sandy especially before we had the swipe cards, I was always leaving it in the machine .
Oh yes. A couple of years ago I was in Aldi. Took my shopping over to the side to pack it...debit card in hand. Put the card down...why???...and left without it. Normally it goes straight back into my card case/pocket.
I think we should all be microchipped so we only have to swipe our hand over the machine for it to debit our account. It could also work for bus passes etc.
My trick is to buy something on line in the wee small hours and leave my card by the lappy. Then when I go shopping...

I have often hared off after someone at the checkout in front of me to return their forgotten card to them, so I do have my good side ;)
There's a coffee shop I use now and again with tables outside. They bring your coffee out to you and you pay on leaving, I got up and left the other day and forgot to pay.

Its embarrassing when they coming running down the road after you. :( I've now asked them to take payment on ordering.
Eh yes,At least you got the groceries Sandy .
Its been sometime back now that x amount of older people had been pulled up outside supermarkets for shoplifting. A lot if not all had been let off due to the fact that many had just forgotten to pay.
When reading about it I didn't believe that could be possible ( to forget to pay).

Its now happened to me twice now in a supermarket.
The reason being, I tend just to pop in for 1 or 2 items so don't bother picking up a basket. After picking up the items that I want, I then tend to just have a look round, then not thinking just head for the door.

Each time I've never got stopped, put just after passing through the door I've had that sudden cold feeling and hairs standing up on the back of the neck moment and realised.

I now make a point of picking up a basket no matter if I intend to buy or not. Its a better reminder.
And even if you still forget to pay those baskets can be lined and used to make a floral display in the garden.
The time to start worrying about forgetfulness is when you forget to breathe:-)
I like lankeela’s idea lol !
I've collected my debit card from the customer service desks at both Tesco and Morrisons on several occasions ;-)

When 'cashback' was first introduced in shops, many of them required customers to sign the receipt to show that they'd received it. I asked for £50 cashback in Morrisons and was presented with the receipt to sign. It wasn't until I got home that I realised that I'd signed before receiving the cash and that I'd never actually got it! (Fortunately Morrisons were very good at sorting my problem out).

I ordered a coffee in a Wetherspoon's pub in Rushden and, once again, asked for cashback. (£30, in this case). The barman had some problems with the coffee machine, meaning that it took quite a long time for me to get my coffee. By the time I got my coffee, I'd completely forgotten about the cash and I didn't notice the error until I was back at my hotel later that day. (Luckily for me, my transaction at the bar had been been carried out immediately below a CCTV camera and the manager was able to check my story very quickly when I phoned the pub).
