A call has been made to reform Parliament.

It's not so much reform we want, it's a return to the moral climate of the Forties, Fifties and early Sixties, when the least sign/evidence of immoral behaviour meant end of Parliamentary career, and we had a House full of decent upright Members instead of the lazy, cheating, lying, greedy, self-interested rogues like we have today.

And so it should, take me back to the days of Harold Wilson.
Ah yes, let's get back to to those days, when women MPs never made up more than 4% of the House of Commons.

Then there'd be very little chance of misogyny rearing it's ugly head, would there?
Perhaps we should have a PM who, like the one we had for the first half of the 1940s, was frequently so pished that a stand-in had to be used to speak on air to the nation?

Human behaviour doesn't really change. The only difference is that the media tells us everything whether we really need to know or not.

It's interesting that Canary42's Utopia seems to embrace a period during which radio and TV interviews with politicians were nearly always scripted, so that awkward questions about those politicians' relationships with prostitutes, dodgy businessmen and hostile governments never got asked. It then ends around the time when TV programmes such as That Was the Week That Was and The Frost Report were building upon the work of Beyond The Fringe, and satirical print magazines, such as Private Eye, were gaining prominence on new stands.

Could it just possibly be that Canary42's golden period was simply one where the truth never came out?
Where you sent your unmarried daughter away to have her baby and making her give it up for adoption?!

Now we get bombarded with information and that is too much for most of us to digest and prioritise. It gets to be that we are constantly told how awful life is. Public figures are hounded by the media.

Women can become famous for having a big backside or huge, round balloon things attached to their rib cage. Pouty lips and plastic faces too!

I'd better go and try to get some sleep to help me face the morning.

Canary probably still covers up the table legs and piano legs in his mansion to preserve the modesty of all his lady visitors or any visiting parsons or archdeacons...
The qualities of MPs hasn't changed, the reporting has.
