This doesn't surprise me. When I visited the city about 4 years ago, there was already a hideous excrescence next to the Three Graces.

Now the regenerated waterfront (which was very worthy of its status IMHO) is being raped by inappropriate developments (all in the name of Greed of course).

Only the third site worldwide to suffer such an indignity (the other two being Oman's Arabian Oryx Sanctuary in 2007 and the Dresden Elbe Valley in Germany in 2009)

Well its difficult to claim to be a heritage site if you rebuild.

But I doubt anyone will even notice, locals and tourists alike whether ot not it is a World Heritage Site.
TBH, I'd take it with a pinch of salt, who are these people anyway? why are they deciding what is a WHS?
Here's a couple of slag heaps in France!

world heritage my April!
"world heritage" doesn't mean "beauty", astoundingly enough. Collections of rocks in Wiltshire aren't beautiful.
That link at 13:34 reads like something written by a 15 year old. Not exactly a scholarly critique, is it?
I don’t think it really matters.

I go to Liverpool a fair bit on business, and by and large the centre is really quite lovely - and personally I think a sparkling new stadium on the waterfront will add to, rather than detract from, the appeal.

We just need to get the locals to drop their godawful accent!
Hey, hey, hey Deskdiary! Calm down! Calm down! Dee doo dat dare dem dont dee? Dee doo! Dee doo!
Won't change a thing, it will still be full of tourists, asking where Abbey Road is.... Wrong city luv..... The ferries will still chug across the Mersey, and weekends will be full of rat ar*** hen and stag parties. Despite that it's a brilliant city, with so much history, they know their heritage and are proud of it.
I LOVE Liverpool, especially the accent !
"Calm down calm down"!
When I heard the BBC reporter waffling on about how Liverpool stood on a par with the Taj Mahal, the Pyramids at Giza, and the Great Wall of China, I knew the whole thing had to be a joke from the beginning.
Like BS, I love Liverpool, love their accent and their ability to laugh at themselves, visited for only a few hours, liked what I saw
He wasn't a BBC reporter Naomi. He is an official from a local museum. Don't know which one, and I can't remember his name, but he has appeared on the Antiques Roadshow a few times as one of the experts.
This decision probably made by third world Johnnies keeping up their profile to justify their next salary, bonus and expenses claim.
Liverpool doesn't need them, and I hope we Scousers wear their sniffy comments as a badge of honour.
Thanks Brainiac! Tis the very man!
Liverpool has more listed buildings than any other city in Europe.
World heritage? Hmph!
