No, it's not a new parlour game. I have just come across the following question among the notes at the back of a slim volume of poems by George Buchanan, no not him, another one circa 1960,

"Prostitution ought to become a profession that is entered, not through kidnapping, force shame, or poverty; but voluntarily for the best of reasons: love of fellow men. This is the obverse of becoming a nun.

Which is better or more religious ? Rejection of all men, or acceptance of all men ? Withdrawal from, or the gentlest advance towards all men ? "

Of all the pointless 'religious' questions I have seen on this site, this one is the best example yet.

If you honestly think you can reduce every woman in the world to these ludicrous stereotypes, and then expect a 'choice', it shows just how much you really need to learn about human nature in general, and women in particular.
You have a very strange view of each profession going by your final paragraph or are those Buchanan's words?
Why not take the NZ view on nunnery or the oldest profession as in 'Rejection of all women, or acceptance of all women? Withdrawal from, or the gentlest advance towards all women?

Useless information, they have a higher acceptance of women escorting women - apparently.
Some might say that prostitution has always been entered into.

It's the whole point really.

Andy // it shows just how much you really need to learn about human nature in general, and women in particular.//

I shall bow to your superior knowledge of both categories,

Mamya, it's all in quotation marks
Then my comment stands but aimed at the author, not that I know anything of him.
i prefer the idea that it might be a parlour game.....
That binary approach is an amusing postulation, but nothing more, folk are indeed far more complex than that.

A person who knew more about prostitution than even andy was the astonishing Swiss “grande horizontale” Grisélidis Réal (1929-2005), who considered prostitution to be a “holy” service in Buchanan’s sense, and even claimed that “la prostitution est un acte révolutionnaire”. Not only does she have a street named after her in Geneva, but she is buried in the city’s famous Cimetière des Rois alongside Jean Calvin, and the famous Argentine poet Jorge Luis Borges reposes on her other side.

Brings to mind "Two mules for sister Sarah"
Khandro - // A person who knew more about prostitution than even andy ... //

You have absolutely no notion of the depth pf my knowledge about anything.

But as a fervent, it is your default position to pronounce from the arrogant assurance that any person you are addressing knows less about anything than either you, or someone you have read about.

Ah I see where you're coming from Khandro. If the prostitute is providing a 'holy' service then that absolves the religious type of man of any guilt he may feel about 'sinning' or breaking moral or religious codes. Very convenient for him.

It's all rather reminiscent of Madonna-*** complex.

That's interesting Chinajan, though I think old Sigmund was a bit whacky & OTT on matters of sex, & why push the emphasis onto the male ? Don't all women have elements of the nun & the *** within them? certainly the best ones in my experience have.

The question is though; who brings more joy into the world, the nun or the prostitute?
