\\She claimed: ‘They were not able to get to people. So, for example, some people had to use two buses, three buses, to get into the town centre.’//

\\In fact, much of the area worst hit by the variant is within 1.5 miles of the vaccination centre at Lever Chambers health centre in Bolton town centre.

A bus from Wigan Road in Deane, at the far edge of the worst-hit area, to the town centre takes ten minutes and costs £1.50. //

And in the same city

I wonder why there was a large surge.

She tried to claim the vaccine rollout was a mess. Sheer garbage from labour, there have been many issues during the Covid scare but the vaccine rollout was not one of them.

We all knoe the real problem is that ethnic minorities have been slow to take it up, but no this woman starts bleating racism.
Typical Labour tactics.
Yasmin is out of date with her info or at least the link is - there has been at least one vaccine bus in BL3 for a while and it will remain there until the end of May at least - appointments aren't needed and they have plenty vaccine.

My seventeen Grandson had his there on Thursday as his College is in BL3.
Good luck to him.

Mrs nJ and I had to travel 3.5 miles for ours (two buses for those without wheels). My friend who lives in Hampshire in a sizeable town had to travel eighteen miles. My 34 year old nephew and his wife are still not eligible in their area.

Special arrangements have been made hand over fist in Bolton where much of the problem has been caused by the behaviour of the inhabitants. Meanwhile, the rest of the country who abide by the rules, wait their turn and go where they're asked can get stuffed.
Not just Bolton doing the younger end either.

I doubt these measures are done to 'stuff' anyone else rather to safeguard the already overstretched services.

I hope this approach is rolled out to a wider public.
Brent, Warrington, Liverpool and parts of Devon have buses too - maybe more.

They're being done because there is an outbreak of the Indian variant in these places and its spread has been caused by (1) People travelling back to the UK from "Red" countries and refusing to quarantine, (2) Multi-generational households and those in high density areas refusing to be vaccinated when they are eligible. A passage from a BBC report:

"But there is one stumbling block. In Bolton, the areas with the highest infections over the last week map very closely to areas with the lowest vaccination rates."

These areas (where, in some, less than 60% of the population over 40 has received their first jab) are in the centre of the Bolton area. The argument that these people are stuck out in the sticks with no suitable transport is specious. The vast majority of those hospitalised in that area have not been vaccinated, despite being eligible.

So the lesson is, avoid having your vaccination if it is a tad inconvenient and wait for an outbreak to occur which threatens your area. They'll then either send a bus round to carry out the vaccination at the end of your street or they might even come to your house and vaccinate everybody to save you the bother of going out at all.
I am well aware of the problems here just now, I cannot comment on the other areas.

Surge vaccination as I said above should be widely rolled out to as many areas as possible.
Webbo/ymb/dannyk13,
Not sure you can claim the vaccine rollout in this area is a great success when Covid contagion is bucking the national trend, and is rising.
standard anti British lefty nastiness, surprised anyone votes for these J'Arthurs.
[email protected], Well you voted for a J'Arthur, and you were right proud.
For once I agree with Tora.
How the hell this woman became a MP for Bolton just shows the contempt Labour has for its voters.

She’s from Watford and is a fecking Barrister, parachuted into a safe Labour seat. Totally unsuited to the constituency she represents, no wonder the red wall is collapsing.
