The Pope has declared that he cannot bless same-sex unions.

Does this extend to the Priest/Choirboy relationship ? Let's hope so.

I see no problem with that. The Church is merely restating its position - that same-sex marriage is wrong. It would therefore be hypocritical for it to compromise by bowing to pressure to act against its beliefs. In matters of faith the Church decides, not ephemeral pressure groups.
Surely in the 21st century all unions are co-ed.

Except the NUR, obvs.
// except the NUR, obvs //

the NUR hasn't existed since 1990, when it married the NUS........
Well done the pope.
what a load of crap, church behind the times as per usual.
Hi emmie, yes I am old fashioned. I believe it was adam and eve, not adam and steve.

Forgive me for believing that same sex marriage is an abomination.
Mushroom sweeps late-night gag aside in pursuit of accuracy. :-)
hi sparkly, i know, but this is the 21st century and i think its time for the churches to grow up, they have billions of followers, who presumbly follow the lead of their respective church teachings.
some of their congregation must be LGBT people, would like to be treated equally in the eyes of the church. This is obviously not the case.
Do you know anything at all about the nature of religious belief? The Church teaches and the people follow, not vice-versa.
God bless Pope Francis . He refused to cave to political activism .
By his actions the Pope will have drawn millions more people closer to the Catholic church (and that's what really upsets the activists )
Good for the pope for rejecting pressure from the 'woke'. The church isn't inclusive. It never was. It has rules which have to be upheld. Anything less would be negate its tenet.

Lots of love from an atheist. x

Your comment about priests and choirboys is crass.

I see the question Canary has asked is being ignored. I suggest the catholic church puts their own house of God in order first.
Sparkly at 08:54 - why do you need forgiveness?

If a view is worth expressing, it shouldn't need an apology in front of it.
Comparing a same sex relationship to systematic child abuse is one of the worst comments I've seen from Canary. Given his history of rotten comments, that's quite something.

Quite honestly, if I was in a gay relationship, the last thing that would worry me is not getting a blessing from a church that had victimised me for decades, so meh.

Perhaps believers feel differently. For them accepting rejection is difficult.
Personally, I genuinely struggle to understand what business it is of anybodys, religion or no religion who somebody loves. If two consenting adults want to love each other and nobody is being harmed I am amazed, to be honest, at how anyone can think it is their concern. The last thing to enter my head on meeting somebody is who they have sex with. The only way I would ever see it as my business is if someone approached me and said they were being abused in their relationship and can i help. That's it. Other than that I find it beyond arrogant that people think it is their place to decide who another person should be with. Stone age stuff! I was raised Catholic BTW, my primary school teachers were all nuns. And I'm straight. I know I don't need to say this but no doubt people will think 'yh that's your opinion cos you're anti religion or gay' No, that's my opinion as a human being who stays in my own lane. I just don't get it I'm sorry. Love who you want, just don't hurt people!
The Church does not exist to 'be inclusive'. It is there to lead, encourage, comfort and serve. Pope Francis' decision is entirely consistent with Church teaching and, as has been touched upon, if I were a part of a same-sex union I wouldn't want to be involved with the Catholic Church. Gay members of the Catholic Church, and Gay people in general, however, should remember that they are loved by God and by the Church.
It's not an 'inclusive' decision, nor should it be.

Their lifestyle is considered a sin by a church that doesn't recognise their love. How is that being loved by that church?
