I asked a friend who has crossed 70 & is heading towards 80 what sort of changes he is feeling in himself? He sent me the following:

1 After loving my parents, my siblings, my spouse, my children and my friends, I have now started loving myself.

2 I have realized that I am not “Atlas”. The world does not rest on my shoulders.

3 I have stopped bargaining with vegetable & fruit vendors. A few pennies more is not going to break me, but it might help the poor fellow save for his daughter’s school fees.

4 I leave my waitress a big tip. The extra money might bring a smile to her face. She is toiling much harder for a living than I am.

5 I stopped telling the elderly that they've already narrated that story many times. The story makes them walk down memory lane & relive their past.

6 I have learned not to correct people even when I know they are wrong. The onus of making everyone perfect is not on me. Peace is more precious than perfection.

7 I give compliments freely & generously. Compliments are a mood enhancer not only for the recipient, but also for me. And a small tip for the recipient of a compliment, never, NEVER turn it down, just say "Thank You.”

8 I have learned not to bother about a crease or a spot on my shirt. Personality speaks louder than appearances.

9 I walk away from people who don't value me. They might not know my worth, but I do.

10 I remain cool when someone plays dirty to outrun me in the rat race. I am not a rat & neither am I in any race.

11 I am learning not to be embarrassed by my emotions. It’s my emotions that make me human.

12 I have learned that it's better to drop the ego than to break a relationship. My ego will keep me aloof, whereas with relationships, I will never be alone.

13 I have learned to live each day as if it's the last. After all, it might be the last.

14 I am doing what makes me happy. I am responsible for my happiness, and I owe it to myself. Happiness is a choice. You can be happy at any time, just choose to be!

Deteriorata (no, I didn't write it, National Lampoon did) Go placidly amid the noise and waste, And remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof. Avoid quiet and passive persons, unless you are in need of sleep. Rotate your tires. Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself, And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys. Know what...

Did you copy this from the net or did a friend actually send it to you as the opening paragraph is exactly the same as one on the net
Well I bet you never thought she'd be on your case, Bobbi. I'm shocked too, so I'm going to go and have a lie down.
It's so true, I first read this a few years ago on LinkedIn.

Days slip into weeks, weeks turn into months and months transform into years. Calendars are changing and so am I.
Yes, I am changing. In certain things age has mellowed me down, in others I have become more aggressive . Sometimes I find myself acting very wise and sometimes I just go crazy. Certain issues will have me speaking vociferously whereas at others I just shrug and remain silent.

No Maggie of course it doesn't matter , hope you had a good Christmas ?
A friend actually put this in our residence page on FB, can't think of anything or law saying I shouldn't copy it:0)
Similar things all over the web, might as well say I have decided I will be holier than thou and not apologise for being smug while I do it.

Lcg, well used to it, you're not the only one y' know haha
That's a lot to live up too.
I see pearls of wisdom like this not as something to follow in their entirety but to think about my own approach to life and perhaps adapt slightly.

It's no more smug that the Desiderata.
This should be the AB motto...

Old Nun’s Prayer

Lord, you know better than I know myself
that I am growing older and one day will be old.
Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking I must
say something on every subject
and on every occasion.

Release me from craving to
straighten out everybodys affairs.
Make me thoughtful but not moody;
helpful but not bossy.

With my vast store of wisdom
it seems a pity not to use it all;
but you know, Lord, that I want a few friends at the end.
Keep my mind free from the recital of endless details,
give me wings to get to the point.
Seal my lips on my aches and pains,
they are increasing and love of rehearsing them
is becoming sweeter as the years go by.
I dare not ask for grace enough
to enjoy the tales of others pains,
but help me to endure them with patience.

I dare not ask for improved memory,
but for growing humility and a lessening cocksureness
when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others.
Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally
I may be mistaken.

Keep me reasonably sweet;
I do not want to be a saint, some of them are so hard to live with,
but a sour old person is one of the
crowning works of the devil.

Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places
and talent in unexpected people,
and give me O Lord the grace to tell them so. AMEN.

The religious thing I don't believe in but there is something in the words.... I was insulted at the time.
To me, this'd be much more effective if it was half as long. By the time I got to the end, I felt I'd had a sermon!

Well just pick the bits out you want n.a.c.w
That's a good one rowanwitch - many of them resonate with me to my shame. Must try harder!!
Thanks, Bobbisox, but I don't think I could face reading it again to do that!

Try a lucky dip , 1 to 14 ?
I know I am picky but I do mind when people post things as though they know the person who wrote it....its part of my anti web junk "thing" People post stuff like "Amazon is spraying their boxes with disinfectant and it burnt my friend's cat's mouth" which is total rubbish...yes I checked..... but it gathers momentum because someone posts as though they know the (non existent) cat owner :(
