How or Why. I can understand police officers facing firearms on the streets but inside a custody suite is beyond belief. How did he get a firearm inside the nick? These are certainly questions to be asked. Always search your prisoner!

I thought they searched them as soon as they are arrested, long before they even get to the nick.

Morning Retro, as the saying goes
" America sneezes and we catch cold"
As a former custody officer I am appalled at this. The first thing to be done when a prisoner enters the charge office is a thorough search.Somebody's head should roll over this.
Strange.
I don't know what America has to do with this. Criminal have always carried weapons in the UK.
From the BBC:

"It is believed the suspect was taken to the station, where he was searched, before producing a weapon and firing it at an officer and himself."

I thought they searched them as soon as they are arrested, long before they even get to the nick.
I am a big fan of all the cop shows on TV (I know, get a life!) and without fail all suspects are searched thoroughly before being taken back to the cop shop, or once they are there - how WAS this missed??

It is what is bound to happen when operational standards are abandoned in favour of pc agendas, and training is all about being sensitive to people's self image or "background". The stop and search was obviously not carried out with any rigour. I do hope there was no, figurative, taking the knee.

Even so, they should always be searched again on arrival at the charge office/custody suite.
I am also an avid viewer of the 'cop' shows and i can honestly say, i have never seen an arrest made without a search having taken place at the point of arrest. Usually accompanied by the question, "Have you any sharps on you or other objects which may harm me?" My heart goes out to the policeman's family who will be asking "How?" and "Why?"
I’m surprised that video is in colour its so old.

I am under the impression it is a policewoman.
BBC now saying a man. Tragic regardless.
The reports refer to the policeman as "He". (BBC and the link provided by Retrocop)
