And he says "the car I bought last week doesn't work at night". So a mechanic tries starting the car with the lights already on. Then, he tried again but turning the lights on with the engine running. Nothing goes wrong, the mechanic explains that he can come back and get a different car if it has trouble again.

The next day, the Belgian owner comes back, quite annoyed, "the stupid thing still doesn't work at night!" And the mechanic says "when you try to start the engine at night, do you hear anything?"

The owner said "the engine starts, but when I step on the gas, it just revs and doesn't actually go anywhere.

The mechanic is confused, wondering about an odd temperature issue with the transmission.
But then the mechanic had another idea. He said "do you do anything different at night" and the owner says "well, I put it in night mode of course! D for Day, N for Night"

The mechanic writes up the repair report as "problem solved, found loose nut behind wheel"

There was a story many years ago about a woman who had problems with her car. The mechanic eventually realised that she drove with the choke pulled fully out all the time, thinking it was a handbag hook.

(If you don't understand, ask your grandparents)
As the story is about a Belgian, I assume that it must have been translated from French! (The French love to mock the Belgians, whereas Belgians love to mock the Dutch). This might be of interest ;-)

I'm reminded though of a news story that was well-reported some years back. A guy took his car to a garage because he was concerned about a rumbling noise coming from the rear whenever he went round a corner. The mechanic took the car for a test drive, came back, opened the boot, removed the bowling ball and presented the customer with his bill ;-)
Like those other myths, as they will be perceived in the future ... or now.
