I had a riding accident yesterday and have lost 2 hours, will I ever remember what happened?
Also the A&E doctor is a bit concerned about a possible fracture to my spine as he has said there is shadowing there.
Anybody experienced a fracture to the spine? I was told to rest whilst he got it checked by someone on Monday.
My head is splitting when will it be ok to drive?

I don't think driving is a good idea.

I don't know about the medical stuff, sorry.

I bet it hurts like a lady dog.

It sure does wolf poor hubby got a real shock too
can't give any medical advice but i would ignore suggestions that you should 'get back on the horse'

Question Author
Ael already planning on getting back on the horse as soon as possible
You probably won't remember. Our brains have an amazing ability to block out traumatic events.

I'm surprised they are leaving the check up on your spine until Monday. That's a bit dodgy; what if it is fractured and you do further damage?

Dr Khan said he checked with others on duty but he wanted to check with a specialist, I’m sure it’s just bruising
NO! DO NOT DRIVE untill you have had a full medical accessment by a quialified doctor !!! You are showing the signs of delayed concussion!!! This can be VERY dangerous ! You may have a crack in one of the bones in your spine . This will show in the specialist X Ray .
Driving before you have been cleared by your Doctors is ILLEGAL ! You will NOT be insured , so DO NOT DO IT !!!!!
Goodness, RR. What a horrible shock for you. I assume you hit your head and were concussed. Sorry I can’t answer your question, but I wish you well.
If it is, as you say, loss of consciousness for a period of 2 hours, then you should have been admitted for observation, the fact that you weren't, convinces me that the loss of memory may well be an "afterthought " on your part.
The possible fracture of the spine is no big deal......probably a transverse process which although painful does not need to be treated.

When can you drive? Well, if the A&E doctors are not concerned and you were discharged then I would have thought that if you NEED to drive, then do so, but if you don't need to...then don't.

Clover I am frightened that I just don’t remember!
Apparently when I came round I asked if the horse was ok!!
How long were you actually unconscious RR ? Do not drive, rest as advised .
Question Author
I wasn’t unconscious for 2 hours I said I cannot remember 2 hours!!
I was unconscious for 10 minutes.
My lower back is swollen, but in the plus side I was wearing a very good quality back protection and helmet
I know you were not unconscious for 4 hours. Rest today. See medical staff tomorrow .

Thanks Annea x
Provided the medical profession was told of the fall then they should do everything necessary regarding treatment and to eliminate possible adverse consequences. Things can be missed however and if you are concerned you should seek advice. As Sqad says, if you don't need to drive while you feel unwell and/or are taking strong painkillers, then don't.

Yes they were told as I was shipped to A&E in an ambulance
I was on a horse trail riding once and one of the girls fell off her horse and hit her head. We all saw her fall and were telling her how it happened but she had absolutely no memory of it at all.
Sorry about your accident. Stay quiet and try to relax until tomorrow.
Sorry to hear this RR, just rest if you can. Hope things go well tomorrow.
