Should Detained Migrant Children Be At Least Allowed To Sleep?

Let's just start by trying to set one thing aside: the ultimate fate of migrants to the US, whether they should be allowed to stay or not, should really be neither here nor there when it comes to this story. Nor is this entirely an anti-Trump thread: although it is the Trump administration involved, this story dates back as far as the Obama era.

Instead, what matters here is what happens in between their arrival (and subsequent detention) and resolution of their cases. Can anyone seriously argue that, as long as the children concerned are in the State's care, they should be kept in at least passably sanitary conditions? And, if not, why not?

Civilised Country?

No way, indefensible.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-48710432 for a more local coverage of the story.
What's the big deal here about problems in the U.S.?
So horrible.
How can people vote for Trump? It’s beyond reason.
Appalling.

What's wrong with caring about what goes on elsewhere?
I can't access those websites so I've no idea what you're talking about.

See the BBC link I added, Naomi.
I think Jim and Alexandria Occasional Cortex are lovers.

That makes Jim a love rat.
You can care all you like about what goes on elsewhere but it won't do you any good. You can't do one thing about it, other than whinge.

I became aware of this story without AOC pointing it out.

Do you have anything useful to say, v-e?
PS: check with Gromit who owns the Washington Post. It's the first question he asks when he sees a news item - depending on whether it supports or contradicts the Gromit world view, of course. Ping!

I posted three separate sources, ve. And for that matter there's a fourth source, namely the US Government. There is no denial at all that these are the conditions that migrant children, detained by the US, are subject to. None. The only question is one of legal interpretation, and what "safe and sanitary" means.
I see the first article's reference to the conditions prevailing "under the Trump administration" which apparently broke a convention established in 1997(!).

As a matter of interest, Jim, when exactly did Trump order the change of the detention regime and reverse the humane treatment which was universal in earlier administrations? You can probably find out on CNN.
It doesn't matter one iota who is/was in administration - it stinks to high heaven.

It matters when the poster is smearing Trumpwith the accusation of cruelty, Mamya. You as an honest person recognise that, don't you? Is this "cruel" regime the result of a new policy of the "Trump administration" designed to brutalise illegal immigrants, or is this "cruel" regime something he's inherited from Obama?
Jim was quite clear in his OP that this treatment predated Trump but is still allowed to continue unabated, but hey let's not comment on the content eh?

Pick holes on the source and what you see as a swipe at Donald.

Sad.
It's certainly sad. I can agree about that bit.
And the children shall pay for The sins of their Fathers.
I remember reading that somewhere.
