Who Pays The Estate Agent Fees?

A while ago I read that estate agent fees were going to be paid for by the landlords rather than the tenants. Does anyone know if this is going ahead and when? As both, I have paid fees as a tenant and as a landlord. Someone somewhere is getting paid when they shouldn't be!

you mean letting agents? yes they leech from both sides.

Apparently there is a law coming in from June, that only the landlord pays. So the tenants just pay rent and their own contents insurance. Fees like referencing and contract renewal will be paid by the landlord instead of the tenant. My concern is that I have been paying both sides for years! Just wondered what the facts were!
