And we wonder why we have a law and order issue in the UK. The justice system is a joke.
I dont care about the penalty for the charge, if getting 4 years (2 in reality) is all you get for attempting to murder a Policemen (and that is what it really is) then something is seriously wrong.
This savage should not be seeing the light of day for 20 years at least.
no, that's what it really wasn't. The prosecutors will have known they hadn't a hope of proving a drunk making a getaway was trying to kill anyone; if they'd brought that charge he'd have walked free from the court, and then you'd be really cross.
It would NOT be possible for a charge of attempted murder to be brought . If it was brought his lawyer would have it dropped in an instant. That would mean no further charge was possible, and he would go free & get compensation. (you have to have actually, knowingly & intentionally tried to kill someone for attempted murder)
He deliberately drove a car at someone. A car is a weapon if used like this.
jno, if that is the case then what is wrong is the law. You should not be able to drive a car at anyone, especially an officer of the law and get 2 years.
But perhaps in your fluffy bunny liberal world he is the victim not the poor old copper?
The police realised one of the drunken gang had driven the van there so they 'hid around the corner' to catch them in the act of drinking and driving. Turned out it wasn't such a great plan. Lucky the 6 yr old and her mother weren't more seriously hurt.
I can see why the police would try to 'trap' rissoles like this but they should have plans in place to protect the innocent.
"Tell me YMB, how long a sentence did the murderer of Jean Charles de Menezes get ? "
Right on Canary. A pathetic attempt at diversion.
"Goodness sake...give it a rest! Facts are facts whether we agree with them or not!"
Why should I give it a rest, I feel strongly about poor sentencing in this country that is leading to total lawlessness. If you dont like my posts dont answer but please, do not try to silence me.
i think that she probably means "give it a rest" from ascribing pejorative terms to other users simpl because they are pointing out to you how the law in this country works, as you seemingly don't know. JNO and most others most likely agree with you that sentences are pathetic, but you just go ahead and insult them anyway
In my opinion he attempted to murder a Policemen. Argue the semantics all you like but that is what he did, took a weapon and deliberately used it at a Policeman.
Maybe thats ok with you , it is not with me. I did say in the OP I didnt care about the charge so why bang on about it? If it is not an attempted murder charge then maybe we need something in between that generates a proper sentence?
Don't say it's okay with me, that's insulting, of course it's not OK, drink driving alone should have got him longer! Let alone injuring someone whether a police officer or a innocent passerby.
You attack people for stating facts! Just because they state facts doesn't mean they condone such behaviour.
