What has this got to do with Lineker, rules are rules?

Apart from that, why should Hamilton be invited into the Royal Box anyway?

Why should anyone who is not 'royal' be invited into the Royal Box then , aog?
I think Mr Lineker is entitled to express an opinion.

On this occasion, I do not agree with him, or other detractors.

The dress code in the Royal Box is part of an ages-old tradition, and like a lot of traditions, it should not be eroded by making exceptions, and I am pleased to see that on this occasion, the club upheld its code, which it does advise in advance.

Mr Hamilton was invited - along with a number of other high-profile British stars of screen and sport, which I believe is also a long tradition.

I am sorry Mr Hamilton lost the match, but to his credit, he accepted that his dress was not in keeping with the stated requirements, and he stepped away from the royal box.

He is the 2008 and 2014 Formula One World Champion.

Seems like a reasonable achievement to me!
By the way i don't think Lineker should keep next years Wimbledon weeks free .

That is seriously scary - I have no memory of typing that, or a good reason why!

I think old age is creeping up on me ...
That's the trouble. Too many people these days seem to think that rules do not apply to them. Obviously Gary Lineker is one of those people!

Gromit...I hope your last post was tongue in cheek !

The Royal Box at Wimbledon must be one of the last places that a jacket and tie is compulsory, and you would have thought that Hamilton would have known that.

Mind you, I recall Russell Grant being before the Commons Select Committee, and not only did he not have a tie on, his shirt was open down to his naval ! So, at least Hamilton looked smart, even though it wasn't smart enough.

Rather nice shirt actually !
Ruddy hell...its gone in a twinkling of an eye...faster than any Formula One Racing Car !
It went faster than a... Better not.

Why should Hamilton not be invited to the Royal Box? Has he done something spectacularly bad which I missed?
Gromit...he was invited but he wasn't dressed properly. You would have thought he or his agent would have realised the dress code.

I think it was Geo V who asked a lord who'd come to Royal Ascot wearing tweeds rather than tails and a topper, 'Going rattin', are you?'
Sartorial standards need to be maintained.
Sandy...I love that story !

I recall Jeeves having the last word on sartorial affairs, The Code of the Woosters :::

"There are moments, Jeeves", said Bertie, "when one asks oneself, 'Do trousers matter?'"

"The mood will pass, sir.”
I thought that Lewis looked far more smart and tidy than some of the so called celebs and sports stars that, although they have been wearing a tie, it was knotted but not pulled close to the Adams apple and the top shirt button was undone. This would not have been acceptable when I was at high school, boys or girls! Yes there is a dress code and someone should have made Lewis aware of it because he is really a very smart dresser normally.

He knew, he posted this piccie on Instagram including the guide for Royal Box Guests that he was sent

Gromit...who on earth is that ? His jacket is at least one size too small, and if he thinks that the tie and the suit go well together.......
