Good morning everyone-and a belated Happy New Year to you all!
Does anyone else use Nytol Herbal sleeping tablets? I posted a couple of months ago saying that I was suffering with anxiety during the night, and I wasn't coping with it. My GP gave me a short course of Temazepam but to be honest, I felt terrible after taking just one! After yet another almost sleepless night, in desperation, I bought some Nytol herbal tablets yesterday, took 2 last night and had the best night's sleep ever! I woke up this morning feeling great-you've no idea how good this feels!
My question is, can one get addicted to these tablets and do they lose their effectiveness over time like prescription sleeping pills?
Maybe it was partly a placebo effect-but whatever it was, I am so grateful :)
Many thanks, best wishes, Maz x

I've used the normal ones. They do lose effectiveness after a while but I don't think they're suppose to be used long term.

They are more to help you get back into a sleeping pattern.
Yes my OH has them but they are not for long term use , just occasional.
Like anything you can get used to them and it loses effectiveness.
I've tried using them but unfortunately they have never worked for me.
you do get used to them... but they suit some people the herbs in them have been used for centuries. you might get an even better effect from a herb tea containing passiflora and lemon verbena Holland and barrett do a few different ones if it has hops in all the better
I have tried Nytol - they give me the worst night ever as they make my legs 'pedal' all night. I find Kalms much better.
There's two sides to this, Mazzy - one is a pill to help you sleep, the other is addressing the source of your anxiety. The pill is only a sticking - plaster, so use it but as everyone says, it isn't going to work for ever.
Nytol has given me restless legs as well.

Thanks for your replies guys...it seems that the pills work differently for everyone! Mosaic, I am trying to work out the reasons for the anxiety and my GP is referring me for CBT, which I have had in the past and which worked well. It was a long time ago though so I need a refresher course now.
Hopefully in the short term, I can develop a better sleep pattern with the Nytols though!
Thanks again all of you-much appreciated!

I tried the non-herbal ones several years ago. They worked but I found it hard to wake up in the morning and felt groggy all day at work.
Hi, glad Nytol are working for you, anxiety is awful and difficult to explain to ppl if they have never had it.

I tracked down a tea I used to drink (Nytol did not work for me, also tried Diazepam which was ok, ignoring the slightly psychotic feeling I got from it!). it is not readily available here anymore. It is Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Extra. It contains Valarian which is a well respected and ancient 'relaxer'. It is only a couple of quid so worth a try. Tastes mostly of spearmint and only a little cammomiley.

Like I say, worth a try and this is one of the few places that carry it now. Has to be the 'extra' not the normal.

Good luck, and hope it sorts itself out for you.

Have you tried wine? perfectly natural, and very effective!

Hi Lunaraine-thanks so much for the link-will have a look! I have tried several 'sleepy' teas but am willing to give the one you recommend a go.
Khandro-wine gets me off to sleep ok but I wake up feeling panicky-it seems to work for my O.H. though, but then he snores all night LOL.
OK maz :-) a bit more seriously; have you ever attempted to practise meditation, it calms the mind, can even lower blood-pressure. You don't have to sit in contorted poses, it can be practised anywhere.
I use temazapam no more than once a week, when I have had a really bad night, so that I am not lying awake trying to get to sleep for two hours. But even with Temaz I still wake up twice or three times during the night. I tried Bach Night Rescue and was wide awake until 3.30am with restless legs so never again, a complete nightmare excuse the pun.
