Anyone know how much Nursing Homes cost per month?

Does this vary much around the country?

This is all very new to me. Anyone have any links to good info sites on Nursing homes: what can I expect to pay for and what for benefits / grants are available (if any!!)

Thanks

A little cockney lady?
It would depend how much nursing care is needed.

Yes, it does vary, quite a lot. You won't get one for less than £500 per week.

Not sure what benefits are available but you're allowed £23k in savings.
It depends whether it's a care home or a nursing home. You can still claim attendance allowance. If the place is not privately paid for, the person's pension/care allowance is used to fund the place and a small amount is allowed back for pocket money. My father pays a lot more than £500 per week for a place in a care home.

It is my belief that a person needing Nursing Care, qualifies for the Nursing component to be free. There will be a charge for the care component.

This varies but from my experience if your looking to need the use of one pay unannounced visits to look around. We were advised to do this by Social Services and found good care for our late Mum.

I think you will find you cannot claim other benefits, other than private or state pension while in care if it is being part funded by the government.

Nursing care would be funded via the NHS i.e. Government.

My aunt paid £70pw, her total pension, as she had given her property to sons 10y prior. Property owners in the same home were charged £2k pw.

Thanks all for your answers. Luckily this is not my decision to make and I will happily leave it in the hands of the "oldies".
The costs vary from state to state.
there are lots of factors why the prices vary including the facilities, the staff, the services, the amenities, etc.

Here's a guide on the costs http://www.completelongtermcare.com/states/
