Replacing shed roof covering

The stuff on the roof of my garden shed has taken a battering through the awful weather and I need to look at replacing it.

The roof panel on each side is about 3 foot wide by about a foot and a half deep (serious estimate!) and only the one side is really affected.

I'm on a serious budget so looking to find out about how much I'm looking at to get it replaced and what is best to ask for so I don't look daft/get ripped off in a store. Does it make a difference how expensive the one you go for is and can you get it in the amount I want without paying for a load I don't need? Oh, and can you cut it to size with normal scissors or will I need something more heavy duty if I can't get the size I want?

I assume somewhere like B&Q would be the best place.

The panel underneath is wood so I assume I can just hammer nails in to keep it in place rather than glueing which I don't imagine would be very waterproof.

a roll of roofing felt from Wickes is quite cheap, you can cut it with a stanley knife.

Thank you both. I have no idea if there is a Wickes round here but will google along with building merchants. B&Q and probably other places are a bus job - will it be heavy (don't worry Trim, I don't have that much to spend on it at the moment so you can stash the hose for now :))?

Am hoping to entice a nice male friends with the lure of being fed for help with cutting (if it doesn't involve scissors) and hammering purposes (preferably one with a hammer as I don't think I have one).

Will ask around if anyone knows of a builder who might have some spare, great idea, never thought of that :)

you can buy it on a roll at any diy store Jenna, no idea of the price though, maybe an idea to shop around before buying, think you can cut it with heavy duty scissors, and yes you have use tacks to secure it!...........good luck with it!...........

Ahhhhh bless ya all :) I'm hoping to capitalise on friends who like doing manly things but don't have a garden to do them in haha! I'm thinking a good proper homecooked roast dinner and homemade apple pie is definitely part of the deal! I feel bad I don't drive so more than willing to give back in return. Just seems at the moment that the less money I have, the more things are in need of replacing, sods law! :)

I'm quite tempted to have a bit of a party and just happen to have the half built filing cabinet I bought years ago and never managed to finish strategically "just happened to be there" on show and looking all pathetic haha :) Note to self...do not buy cheap self assembly flatpack furniture!
