'You couldn't make it up, The Sun usually does'

Standard answer people tend to give if it's a Sun story

As if stories in other newspapers are all true huh?
Whats the score - Love all?
The basic purpose of Sport England as stated on their website - http://www.sportengland.org/about_us.aspx

"We invest National Lottery and Exchequer funding in organisations and projects that will grow and sustain participation in grassroots sport and create opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport."

They have pledged 15% of their investment to get 1 million more people to take part in sport - this funding would seem to be in line with their stated purpose irrespective of the sexuality of the group organisers (who state that they are trying to get everyone involved not just lesbians) so I can't see the problem with this ... and even if it was just for lesbians to play sport they are just a section of the community like everyone else so provided other groups were also getting funding then its really still not a problem is it?
Of course if you stopped reading the Sun and read a grown up paper you'd have learnt that the money didn't come direct from the Government but from Sport England.

So where does the money come from then?

/// The funding it distributes comes from both the Treasury and the National Lottery. Since 1994, it has invested over £2bn of Lottery funds and £300 million from the Exchequer into sports in England.///
LMAO ginge - nice one.
Why do they find the need to encourage certain minority groups to take up these sports.

Are they somehow different that they can't take part if they so wish, just as everyone else does?

Judging by Britain's record in sports, money such as this would be better used encouraging the young to take up sports.
If it's anything like on the DVD I have, it's £6500 well spent!
hehe!
Sport England distributes money to all sorts of unlikely groups to encourage participation in sport. In this case it was LTGB, could just has easily been disabled ex-service or retired fishermen.

You've contradicted yourself massively in your post.

First you say:

Why do they find the need to encourage certain minority groups to take up these sports.

Are they somehow different that they can't take part if they so wish, just as everyone else does?

then you write:

Judging by Britain's record in sports, money such as this would be better used encouraging the young to take up sports.

However, by all reckoning...the young are a minority. Why do they need to be encouraged to take up sports more so than any other section of the community?
