Here we are in the UK working our way out of recession (free of the Euro - thanks Gordon best move ever) and what do Bruxelles do?
Of course, up our contributions by 840m and ontop of that start giving money away to mothers. Are these people for real ?

Lets not forget the French and other countries retire far earlier than us so effectively we are working till we drop to fund their lifestyle.

I say enough is enough, tel 'em to nob off. We and the germans are net payers if the Germans also pulled out and got together with us we could rule the World whislt the French wallowed in their burnt tyres.

Over all the Germans wouldn't pull out.

They may also be net contributors but they get a lot of power out of it. It is the German and French governments that try to put in (and often succeed) all these stupid, crass and expencive rules and laws.

It is our own successive governments (perhaps excluding Thatcher!) that capitulates and bows to Eurocratic rule.
Excluding Thatcher?

You mean the Prime Minister who signed the EU into existance with the Single European act?

That Thatcher?

Anyone would think the EU had not an Englishman in it!

You'd expect this if we were a little country like Ireland or Portugal being dominated by larger states but we're one of the big 4.

Trouble is YMG you seem to think everything is about money - Germany, France and Italy all see the value and power of being a single Europen body - the Worlds largest economy.

They're not going to pull out and let the US start imposing trade terms again

Together we're strong - divided we are US poodles
jake # Together we're strong #
: We can never be together with 20 odd different cultures , languages , economies , climates , work ethics , discipllne , etc. We will never speak with one voice.
The second point is the desire of the ruling body to impose its rules and regulations on everyone even when they are shown to be wrong. Think of the butter mountains, wine lakes, health and safety, human rights acts. All imposed and go on for 30 years before they are modified., never scrapped.
.
The EU is corrupt,( the accountants refuse to sign their annual accounts ) they're , bloated the EU institutions alone employ 50 thousand people at huge salaries plus a similar number in support services, .
We already are strong.

George Bush tried to impose illegal trade tarrifs in steel and the EU faced him down in a way that individual governments never could have.

The EU have a history of protecting the consumer against big businesses like Microsoft and the Mobile phone Giants.

Can you imagine any UK government trying to fine Microsoft?

This is why Murdoch and his news empire are always flooding the place with the half baked lies and rumours that you're obviously picking up.

The EU's corrupt is it? not like our MPs?
so your answer to EU corruption jake is to say that our own parliament is also. So you agree then that brussells is corrupt, yes? Name me another ourtfit that could go 15 years without being able to find an accountant bent enough to audtit the books.
Norway, is not in the EU, they seem to be doing well, In fact where I work they are our best customer, they have so much deposited, we are struggleing to find what to do with it for them. No deficit there.
When did the UK last undergo an audit?

How about the US?

The EU is not a company and the standards involved in achieving an audit sign off involve things like ensuring there are no fraudulent claims for funds.

Despite these huge challenges the EU is making great progress for a sign off - if it achieves that as well it may in the next few years it will represent the gold standard for public bodies and you'll have a lot of humble pie to eat
MEPs expensives make our lot's look like petty cash. First class travel door to door . No receipts required. First class meals ditto. Daily allowance whether you turn up or not.

They waste millions of pounds travelling between Brussels, Strasburg and Luxemburg .
Strasburg has a full staff but only 12 weekly sessions a year and why is it used ? A sop to the French . It is said most MEPs don't like all this travelling but the constitution makes it almost impossible to change,.Like most EU regulations.nothing can change without the agreement of all the member countries, which you rarely get.
