Can anyone please give me some advice on the best way to catalogue my cd collection. I should say at the outset that I am a complete novice when it comes to computers so the simpler the better ! I have tried to set a file up on Word, but when I printed the first page, the details were in the middle of the page leaving large margins at each side and I don't know if that is normal or not. Also when I tried to create a space, (after missing a title out,) I caused all sorts of problems with previous lines vanishing. So what I would like to know is
1.how to extend my keying area both right and left on Word?
2. how to create a new space correctly, to make further additions to the master copy of the list?
3.does Word automatically divide print-outs into pages, or do I have to indicate where each page ends?
4. does anyone know of a better way of achieving my goal?
I realise these are not dificult by the standards of some of the questions on this site, but I would be grateful for any advice, and to keep it as simplistic as possible
Cheers

I reckon Excel would be better suited for doing this than word.
Yep Chuck has it right use Excel.

Put first name in one column surname in second column album name in 3rd column then producer number et al, once this is done uou can the sort by artist or album label etc.

Adding to a word dockument would be far harder than excel.
If you have Access I think there is an example database included that could be used.

I'd look at a software-based method. I'm at work so haven't got time to find you a good one (and unless I'm naughty and circumvent the web filter, most freeware sites are banned) but the one I use for DVDs senses when a DVD is put in the tray and automatically pulls details from the net. You can also manually enter a few details (or the bar code - this can be scanned, if you have the hardware) and choose from a list of likely matches.

http://www.collectorz.com/music/ costs, but does the above (and generally gets good reviews). I'm sure that you could find something free that has much of the same functionality. I was considering using http://www.datacrow.net/index.html for some of my collections, but have yet to play with it
