I realise Spanish police are said to have ruled out foul play in the death of 33-year old Stephen Gately, but the more I read about the case the more odd it seems. Anyone else find it strange?

not really, people do die suddenly, even young people. There are all sorts of rumours but it seems they've all been denied. Let's see what the post mortem says.

Conspiracies sell newspapers. A mysterious Bulgarian is a much better story than either natural causes, or a booze-induced choking incident.

As jno says, the post mortem will sort it all out.

Bloody sad story though.
The red-top newspapers are trying to make it seem suspicious even though they have no hard facts about his death. Scandals sell more papers.
As jno said,we should wait for the post mortem to be performed and the results published.
Some say he went out on a drinks binge, the authorities say it is not a suspicious death, but his family say it was down to a tragic accident.

Since he didn't fall downstairs or off the balcony, what do they mean?
Last week everybody was going on about the girl who dropped dead after the Cervical cancer jab.

There were all sorts of rumours flying about.

Then it turned out she had a great big tumour infiltrating her heart and lungs.

Moral of the story? - wait for the autopsy
Such a shame........what a waste of life.

Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, River Phoenix and many others.

Seems to be pointing to hard drinking and partying, and Gately probably not used to it, as rarely drank, apparently.
Did he use any drugs to mix with the alcohol?
As said by jno and sp1814, post mortem will find that out.

No, it is not suspicious.

It is entirely predictable that the tabloids are insinuating foul deeds when they is no evidence. He may have died of natural causes tragically young, but that is a bit boring. Better to instill an element of doubt and let your imagination think it was a drug and booze fueled gay sex romp that was his undoing.
Although the (sad) post mortem is not until Tuesday,it seems more and more likely that Stephen and his partner had been drinking (and eating) and when he fell asleep he choked on his own vomit.
If you want to make something more sensational of it feel free, but I think you will be sadly disappointed after the results of the PM are published.
Why can't anyone accept that celebrities can have simple/accidental deaths just like us?
ah yes, Mr V, I am reminded of the dyslexic rock star who choked to death on his own Vimto.
33 + famous + homosexual + former boy band member = drug-induced death?

Hmm... couldn't possibly die of natural causes then, like us mere mortals?

Nope, that would be far too boring.

A preliminary report has suggested that the cause of death was pulmonary oedema.
ffs, NoM..................were not all Dr KIldare!!..................laymans terms, sweetheart...........

Hold up.......i'll look it up instead!!

You litle minx, you xx
fluid on lungs then
Yeah... they suspected that, as he apparently drank loads, and was not used to it at all.

Sad accident.
The reporter outside the mortuary said it may have just been a coincidence that he went out that night, and it may not have happened as a direct result of any alcohol consumption.
Blimey :0(
excess fluid in lungs, due to be fully explained on ITV news shortly
