This should please the Civil Liberty fans:
New Police powers will allow our boys in blue to enter your house prior to the 2012 Olympics and rip down / remove any anti Olympics posters.

You can just imagine the scene, can't you?
"Evenin' all. Sorry to interrupt your dinner. Just popped in to rip down that "Paula Radcliffe pees in the gutter" poster in your front window."

Big Brother watching us? Where will it all end?
What happened to free speech?

Well, Ice, and just what do you have to hide, eh? The mind boggles (hee hee).
Surely only subversives like yourself will need to worry?
What is it the right wing says when this sort of thing is aimed at terrorist suspects?

Oh yes

"Nothing to hide - nothing to fear"

Or does that not apply here?

Seriously though you're just plain WRONG

I can't imagine how though because surely you wouldn't just believe stuff from the mail without checking it!

If it is a dwelling - IE a house they still need a warrent

(4) The power to enter premises may be exercised in relation to a dwelling only in accordance with a warrant issued by a justice of the peace; and a justice of the peace may issue a warrant only if satisfied on the application of a constable or enforcement officer that

(a) there are reasonable grounds to believe a contravention of regulations under section 19 is occurring in the dwelling or on land that can reasonably be entered only through the dwelling,

(b) the constable or enforcement officer has complied with subsection (3),

(c) the constable or enforcement officer has taken reasonable steps to give notice to persons likely to be interested of his intention to apply for a warrant, and

(d) that it is reasonable in the circumstances of the case to issue a warrant.
Hello paraffin

I read that you have resigned from AB. I hope that decision was done in haste and I hope you will reconsider. We do not always agree, but I certainly enjoy debating with you and you will be greatly missed.

Your post was unfortunately worded but you have adequately explained yourself and most reasonable people can accept that.

Everyone knows Leg is not right in the head. It has always been so. It would be a great shame if you were not to post again just because of one nincompoop.

Best wishes

Gromit
The powers were introduced by the Olympics Act of 2006, passed by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, supposedly to preserve the monopoly of official advertisers on the London 2012 site.

This is an overreaction on part of certain people who assume that the powers will be over played to include anti-Olympic protests, when in fact it is an act to preserve the monopoly of official advertisers.

Once again every opportunity to have a go at the Mail.

It would seem by the report there are plenty of people ready to believe it, do you really think they would get so excited just by a Mail report.

No, these are Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling, Liberal Democrat spokesman, civil liberties groups and some anti-Olympic campaigners, taking the chance to voice their own particular agenda. The Mail just reported their reactions.

if i want to put up a poster saying 'olympics are a waste of time' i will. i hope thousands do just to see if the government even tries to start arresting people.

get these labour idiots out now. this is nazi germany. all those 'hereos' that died in the 2nd world war will be crying their eyes out.
this is nazi germany, socket2008?

Then where are the death camps?
the story is also in the Guardian

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/jul/21/olymp ics2012-civil-liberties

which however gives more prominence to words like 'potentially', which the Mail seldom bothers with.
jno
Then where are the death camps?

Not exactly, 'Camps' but..........................

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4371096.stm

According to Age Concern, the UK has one of the highest rates of winter deaths in Europe with older people at greater risk of illnesses such as pneumonia. The charity said high heating costs, low housing standards and incomes are to blame.
aog, the death camps were set up deliberately to wipe out the Jewish race; some 6 million died. Are you seriously suggesting the government is trying to kill all old people? If so, I suggest you call the police with your evidence.
It's pretty ludicrous to compare people dying of hypothermia to Nazi death camps AOG, even for you.

Anyway, from the guardian..
Chris Grayling, the shadow home secretary, said: "This is a government who just doesn't understand civil liberties they may claim these powers won't be used but the frank truth is no one will believe them. Neither the police nor any other official should be invading people's homes for what appear to be commercial reasons."

Quite.
It just sickens me when such people as jno and ludwig have to take everything literately.
socket2008 says 'this is Nazi Germany and jno says 'where are the death camps'

I said 'not exactly camps but.........and gave a link to describe the amount of old people who die of hypothermia mainly due to poor housing, the huge cost of heating, and one of the lowest pensions in Europe, in one of the richest countries in the world.

Then ludwig says 'It's pretty ludicrous to compare people dying of hypothermia to Nazi death camps'

Give me strength.

'give me taste' might be a better prayer. Somehow my mention of Nazi genocide made you think of hypothermia. That is a very big leap of imagination indeed.
Glad you're out Paraffin? I know I am.
Who's volunteering to walk in front of the tanks when they roll in?
