Does anyone know how the home office calculates the compensation awarded to someone in a case like this?

I would've thought that because he spend his key money-earning years in jail, he would have to be set up for the rest of his life?

Or could the Home Office say "because it wasn't a malicious prosecution, and we didn't have DN A technology at the time, we're not liable"...?

I was listening to a chappie on the radio , this afternoon
( edits a prison newspaper ) - anyway he stated that the most he could expect to get was something like 500k .

Not much of a compensation for losing your liberty for nigh on 30 years .

If some one offered me a million pounds or ten million for that matter ; on the condition that I gave up my liberty for anything like that period of time - I would politely tell them that i had a soft spot for them - a bog somewhere in the west of Ireland

The frightening thing is because whilst in jail never expressed any wrongdoing he was unable to be considered for a parole. Surely the law is wrong in this regard? Its just like saying "have you stopped beating your wife".

in previous cases of miscarriage of justice, hasn't it been the case that any compensation given has been tempered by the government charging "board & lodging" for the time spent in prison?

Poor guy,looked a little simple and like he did'nt know what was happening,so the money will never be able to change his state of mind but a least will go towards his having an easier life which he more then deserves.

In awarding compensation the act should take into account how the accused contributed to the wrongful arrest and sentence. The fact that he said he carried out the murder influenced the jury so much they felt no sane man would have said it. But was he sane?
