I was just reading this article, to me it makes a lot of sense but some of it i disagree with when comparing it to my personal experiences lately...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7427132.stm

a few weeks back i witnessed two assaults on my doorstep and i had to either break up the fight or face the possibility that it would spill through my front door (leaving it in peaces). I made the 999 call and the police were there in 10 minutes by which time the event was over but i knew where the culprits had gone and they were swiftly arrested. later on that evening my neighbour phoned the police again to find out what was going on and two more officers turned up and were very professional to my eyes. especially considering how uncooperative he was being when it came to giving a statement.

i guess in this case i was lucky?
anyone else have any experiences they want to share?

The bloke in the flat above me seriously assaulted his partner, CS gassed her in fact, police called and he was nicked. He broke his bail conditions by coming back to the property, I phoned crimestoppers and the police 3 times.

No-one came

Two people in the street blatently deal drugs plus a house grows it. Rung the police several times.

No-one came

to be fair i think there is a dealer on every street in the uk. i havent lived anywhere where i havent seen the tell tale signs. just wish the government would tackle it properly by leagalising it and taxing it.
The thing is cannab is use is widespread and its not the dealers Im bothered about its the young chavs that hand around waiting to buy who will think nothing of putting a brick thro your car window to nick a CD

fortunately im on the 8th floor and my car gets kept in a garage so i dont (usualy) have to worry about such things. its just the low lifes that live in the same block as me which i get concerned about. one of many reasons i dont inite any of them into my flat so they dont know if there is anything worth nicking in there. are there no comunity support officers that cover your area they are usualy good to talk to and when asked do tend to make their pressence known in an area which helps prevent youth gangs congregating. we have had two covering my block and the one oposite for the past few months and yobbish behaviour has shown a significant decrease well at least out in the open anyway.
I worked at a video rental long time ago, a guy came in and started shouting and was trying to grab hold of me over the counter. Reason because I asked his younger brother to leave the shop as he was a shop lifter. I phoned police and told them, no one came, 15 minutes over and I was listening to all his rubbish, customers tried to intervene but in the end started leaving, no good for business. I decided to come around the counter and asked him to leave, he punched me, I was on my knees, with nose bleeding and he was kicking me, I got up, grabbed a shutter bar and then it was my turn, I broke his two ribs, one arm, and then police arrived. Result, Well according to them I assaulted him, No use of my customer witnesses either, asked about my phone call and was told that at that time he was not attacking me. Lesson, well next time wiat till person really attacks you then request him to let you make a phone call and call the police.
