Does anyone know what staff pension arrangements are normally applied when teaching in private education?

Thanks. The reason I asked this question is because my son is about to take up a post in a private school. At no time in the interview or terms and conditions has pension been mentioned. In the state sector it forms a valuable part of your package. My son refuses to discuss it.

I thought state teachers pensions wer paid out of council tax or general taxation. Are you saying that both sectors belong to the same scheme? ie you pay x%, the employer pays x%, and your pension is based on final salary? Is the private school being a bit canny and only offer it if he asks?
