Myself and my 6 brothers and sisters were all brought up in the UK care system.I can assure you from personal experience that it isn't only Portugal that should hang their heads in shame for allowing abuse to happen in orphanages and children's homes. One of my sisters was in a home in Leicestershire where a man called Frank Beck was officer in charge.She was physically attacked by him a few times and witnessed his abuse of other children there.

As none of us actually know what has happened to Madeleine McCann it is a bit silly to try and link this story with her disappearance.

Every country in the world has a paedophile system, some large some small, all containing "pillars of the community". The Catholic Church is the biggest paedophile ring in the world.

I can't find reference to the sacked police officer having links to the paedophile ring in that article,could you copy and paste the bit where it says that please?
I did find this bit of text right at the bottom of the report though:

"Of course, the Casa Pia case may have no direct link to the disappearance of Madeleine, but the culture in which such a serious child abuse network was allowed to operate is the same culture that pervades the whole of Portugal.
