Top geezer, what a shame and how sad for his family that his five year old son was killed as well.

yeah and he wasnt your typical celebrity d.i.c.khead he was just a normal bloke who treated everyone the same, fantastic driver his ps1 game inspired me to get a subaru, rally drivers are probably even more skilled than f1 drivers because of the extreme conditions they have to deal with and they are not pampered like those f1 robots, he was outstanding in whatever he drove
Read about this at lunch today, I'm not a big fan of car rallying, but he was a lovely man. And for it to take the life of his son as well- utterly tragic.
so sad , i didnt realise his son was killed too! Bloody awful.
Yes very sad but there were others that were killed including another child. Perhaps these were not so famous but they should not be forgotten.

What I should like to ask though is the fact that when a small air-borne vehicle crashes, why is there more investigation and media coverage attached to it than when a car crashes.

For example there isn't a special car crash investigator sent to the scene, nether is a car assembled back together to discover what made it crash.
Very good point that anotheroldgit.
Its devastating, not because he was famous or a world champion, but because 2 families have been devastated. 2 men, and a 5 and 6 year old boy, its just awful. :-(
sad day indeed................
anotheroldgit. Just to correct you there. Every traffic department in every constabulary (or RDP, Road Polising Division) have a AIU or CIU which stands for Accident (or crash) Investigation Unit. at every serious or fatal accident they are duty bound to attend 24/7. Further, any fatal road crash is dealt as a potential crime scene until proved otherwise. Mush the same as any sudden death.

And on a further point, if there are huge amounts of insurance revenue to pay out i canb assure you the cars (after Police forensic tests) are meticulously jigsawed back together.

And finally, more and more cars, both domestic and certainly company cars, are having an equivelent of a black box fitted.

So I am afraid with your post, you have been misinformed.
Real shame. R.I.P
Last year he was driving in the Donegal Rally and he was saying he would do everything he could do to get the world rally to donegal . The world rally will be in donegal in a two months time , its a shame he will not see. His Playstation One game was the first game i got on the PS1. A lovely man ,he will be missed big time
Thanks for the information Shadow Man, I stand corrected.

But I still think more media cover at least is put on Air- Borne vehicles, perhaps it is because it is not such a common occurrence, for one to crash as it is for a car, but it still carries the same amount of grief.
I agree it's very sad but like Payne Stewart(golfer) Aalayiah(sp) singer, they have become victims of their own sucess. All that money and then after the cars comes the aircraft, there are so many famous people flying or learning to fly and whilst for some I'm sure it's a passion, for others it's just because they can. I know the aforementioned did not actually fly their own craft but when you buy yourself a lear jet or a helicopter I think they forget to employ the engineers and people that keep these craft airborne.
Noy knocking them but it's just so common these days.
