//Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said he hoped it would serve as an example to other countries, which have been reluctant to recognise a regime which implements a version of Sharia law along with severe restrictions on women and girls.

Others have decried the move, with former Afghan politician Fawzia Koofi saying "any move by any country to normalise relations with the Taliban will not bring peace it will legitimise impunity".//

Typical of mad Vlad - he's probably done it just to wind up the west.

There must, surely, be some military benefit in this for Russia.

Probably Putin is hoping these beardy bastrads will perform a bit better than the North Koreans or his own troops did in killing innocent Ukrainians.

While simultaneously, it is reported, are using choking chemical weapons from drones, dropped on Ukrainian soldiers to drive them out of their trenches so they can be shot.

Nice one Vladimir.

Russia has a tendency to cosy up to the dodgy governments as no one else has such low standards and have no wish to be seen doing the same.  So no surprise they're looking for another to add to their sphere of influence.  They probably need a mental boost what with they way they are bombing as a world superpower  looking for aid from places like China and North Korea while wary of them taking over meanwhile.

Well - pragmatically - the Taliban do now rule Afghanistan. Whether ypu recognise them or not is up to you.

For a ha'porth of tar the ship was lost.

All to do with the Ukraine war I would imagine.

Russia lost their own war in Afghanistan in the 1980s, after the West rushed to the aid of the mujahideen, helping to train people like Bin Laden. This was some years before the West lost their own war there. They've obviously decided that if you can't beat them, join them.
