A Palestine Action member has told the BBC it is "absurd" the government plans to proscribe the group, which would effectively brand it as a terrorist organisation.

Saeed Taji Farouky said it "rips apart the very basic concepts of British democracy and the rule of law".

It comes after Palestine Action activists broke into RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire and sprayed two planes with red paint, an incident branded "disgraceful" by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

Mr Farouky told the BBC he has a conviction for criminal damage related to a different Palestine Action protest.//

That's rich coming from a group that appears to care little for the rule of law.

The name Saeed Taji Farouky says it all, surely some kind of Iranian saboteur or terrorist?

It does stretch "terrorism" absurdly far ... are there any other non-violent terrorist organisations?

@12.14.Having said that in the next few years the surname Farouky will be one of the commonest surnames in the UK the way things are going.

Since this ‘terrorist’ organisation has not committed any acts of terrorism, it’s hard to understand under what criteria the government has declared them to be a terrorist organisation.

What is preventing this government from declaring the Tories a terrorist organisation – making membership a criminal offence?

"Palestine Action Member Says Plan To Ban Group 'Absurd'" - well they would wouldn't they!

Hymie; //Since this ‘terrorist’ organisation has not committed any acts of terrorism,....//

If breaking into a Royal Air Force camp, causing hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage and incapacitating two large & important military aircraft isn't an act of terrorism, what is?

I don't know how he's got the gall to prattle on abut the rule of law as though he's the injured party.

in 2004 Keir Starmer defended an activist who broke into an RAF base to set fire to aircraft. Starmer claimed his client was legally justified because it might stop a war crime. If he'd won that argument back then, what happened at Brize Norton would probably be legal.

Well he would say that wouldn't he.

These terrorists will say anything to still be allowed to carry on regardless.

Check out the Black Belt Barrister channel on YouTube to see why it can be defined as terrorism.

Personally I stillview it as treasonable.

...still view...

"Downing Street declined to comment, except to point out the “cab rank” rule under which barristers have no choice but to take the next case in the queue."

He was obliged to represent the defendant in the 2004 case.

they are right. this would allow the government to call any group that breaks the law a terrorist organisation. that cannot be helpful.

heads have to rule hearts on this i think.

The UK Terrorist Act 2000, defines a terrorist act as....’serious violence against a person, serious damage to property, or endangers a person’s life....

Spraying an aircraft with paint would hardly represent serious damage to property.

// Spraying an aircraft with paint would hardly represent serious damage to property. //

would you happily get on a plane knowing that paint had been sprayed into its engines, Hymie?

hymie: "Spraying an aircraft with paint would hardly represent serious damage to property." - you're having a Turkish, they sprayed paint into the engines. Those enginse have such fine tolerances that they'll need to be stripped down and re built at a cost of approx £200k, I'd say that is serious damage.

Hymie what planet are you on those engines will cost tens of thousands to repair another ridiculous post from you.
