//However, the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) said it was "horrified" by the vote.

The organisation's public policy manager, Alithea Williams, said: "If this clause becomes law, a woman who aborts her baby at any point in pregnancy, even moments before birth, would not be committing a criminal offence."

"Now, even the very limited protection afforded by the law is being stripped away," she added.//

who ever aborted a baby moments before birth? Hysterical catastrophising.

Seems to me the only lawful way to achieve abortion should be through official channels. While having some sympathy with those involved, one still ought not use the fact that those caught doing wrong will be upset as a reason to decriminalise something.  That argument applied elsewhere means we could disband any police force.

That is of course the extreme, but there is a good deal in between that and the 24 weeks where it has happened.

Personally I think its wrong.  Yes of course its the womans body but in my mind 24 weeks, whilst not perfect maybe, is a resaonble cutover to say it is now an unborn child - and that should have rights.

So yes for me, a man, its too far.

I think it's too far too, ymb.

If it stops women being prosecuted for having a late miscarriage, or continue with a preganncy that is an unwanted product of abuse or rape, then no it can never be a step too far.

When I read this I felt sick to my stomach

The 24 week limit allowed victims of rape ample time to get an abortion

I also think that it is a step too far.  I have no faith in any 'safeguards'.  David Steel assured us all that abortion would be strictly controlled and medically approved.  Look what has happened since.  24 weeks was agreed for strong reasons.

@12:46, but the death of a foetus capable of living a full life is ok if it saves a few from your rather bizzare defence of it.

There is no need to go this far to stop the one in a million chance you describe.  It in fact will open up a back street abortion assistance (and no end of videos on how to achieve it no doubt).

Anyone aiding an otherwise illegal abortion could be prosecuted still.

The whole point of 24 weeks is that the foetus/baby is potentially viable. There is a balance to be made between the woman and the child and that balance has been thrown out of kilter following this law. So yes, it's too far for me.

I think the law is fine as it is.
I am very pro-choice. Bringing up this proposed bill will lead to a debate and who knows how it will end up. If Jacob Rees-Mogg gets involved it could be terrible for women.

//Anyone aiding an otherwise illegal abortion could be prosecuted still.//

Nitpicking.  Are you comfortable with this Bill?

//If Jacob Rees-Mogg gets involved it could be terrible for women.//

Utter rot and total supposition.

And anyway, although I dont agree with his Rock Cake belifs why shouldnt someone put that argument forward?  Many Left Footer women also buy into it you know.  It's up to us to put a better argument forward not expect to silence someone like you on the Left seem to prefer.

To be clear, the vote  already happened,  yesterday.

The Antoniazzi amendment won the support from 379 MPs, with 137 against ... The amendment still needs to complete its legislative journey through both the Commons and the Lords before it can become law.

JRM is anti abortion in all circumstances, including incest and rape.

I mentioned him because of the Roe v Wade overturning in the US.

He's not even an MP any more, so fear not ...

Do you understand why Wade v Roe  occurred and why the decisoin was made?  It appears not.

Well, good.

//JRM is anti abortion in all circumstances, including incest and rape. //

I disagree with him entirely but he, and many others, are entitled to their view as much as you and I are.  Instead of making things up try putting substanial arguments forward if it ever happens(which it wont as he is not even an MP!)
