It is nice that my wee corner of the world gets some recognition.

It aint the happiest place to live though.

full o' jocks innit 🤣

Perth is a great place - not too far from me and I love to visit. Had family there but sadly all gone now.  Their theatres are great venues and there is a super shopping centre. The north and south inches are lovely green open spaces. I would be more than happy to live there.

Noticed that Haddington (12 miles from here) came second - how/why??  Always trouble there!

Stayed in Perth for 3 weeks once - on  a training course.

I remember travelling from Euston. The return fare was 222 shillings (£11.10). The journey took eight hours. When I got on at Euston there were three schoolgirls (looked like sisters) accompanying me in my comparment, obviously returning to boarding school. They were very loud and giggly but I thought they'd probably get off at Rugby or Stafford or somewhere..

Where did they get off? Bloody Gleneagles (for Auchterarder). Just one stop and 20 minutes before Perth! Nightmare journey!

Anyway, our training school and accommodation was in Viewlands Road and we spent some time at the company's Head Office which was in the middle of town on Tay Street, overlooking the river.

Perth seemed a nice place and I can understand it coming high on the list of pleasant places to live (though I recall we had some trouble getting a drink on Sundays). We had a walk up Kinnoul Hill and took the train to Edinburgh on one of the Saturdays so that we could travel over the Forth Bridge.

That said, although I was booked to return to London on Saturday morning, I'd decided by Friday I'd had enough. I  managed to squeeze on to a train that left Perth around 8pm and arrived back in London at about 6am. There was only so much of Scotland a London boy could take!

Had some happy holidays in and around Perth

Back when the late in-laws lived in Scotland, we visited Perth several times. It's a really pleasant and attractive city...in a beautiful part of the world.

I tell people that I live in the city centre.  That means different things to different people.

It is almost silent outside, with some passing traffic that is steady but rarely busy.  It gets a little noisy when the pubs close, but compared to places like Nottingham (where my brother stays), Perth is still a wee county town.

And it's known for it's Fair Maid!

My Scottish Mum loved Perth and told me what a great place it was.  When I first visited (en route to Inverness) it was pleasant enough.  When we visited properly, many years later, we found it to be a very pleasant place.

We occasionally have a day out in Perth. Visit the JD Fergusson gallery or the museum, browse independent shops and have lunch. My favourite shop, the Tayberry Gallery on Princes Street has sadly closed.

It looks lovely Wolf, but as a Yorshireman, i'd still be weary of them blokes pretending they're not skirts.

What's troubling me is the Daily Record lifting a Guardian article to pad out it's pages which these days consists mostly of football an adverts.

Anyway, Perth is nice and to my mind there's a major reason for that  which would not be approved of by the management.

I think that's the happiest place in Scotland. The happiest place in UK is Woodbridge apparently:
