Yesterday I visited the Dolphin centre in Poole. I didn't realise this until I saw this poster in their window:
But 140 year old dept store Beales is closing down, another victim of Reeves job and business destruction scheme:

Has there ever been a Chancellor so clueless?
I have to comment how upset I am to read that buenchico, who lives nowhere near Dorset and has probably never even been in a Beales, thinks it's appropriate to capitalise their downfall with welcomed and good riddance, ignoring the staff losing their jobs for starters. I assume it's political in motivation as it was a more upmarket/expensive store and there are those who want all that gone. Your idea of a thriving high street must be what we have now, empty premises interspersed with coffee bars, turkish barbers, phone and vape shops. - most of which close within a year only to be replaced by the same.
Anyway the dismissive remarks has *** me off. Just saying.
Birmingham had many fine department stores - Rackham's, Lewis's (not John Lewis), Greys, Co-Op, Army & Navy, Barrow's, Debenham's, Beatties, Beehive.
All gone. People don't seem to want that type of store any more, although I miss them. I want to buy a good dinner service for a special anniversary and really there is nowhere local to view a range .
@10:29, that thought crossed my mind too.
Bizzarly I was in the Lord Wimbourne yesterday, so missed you by a day TTT! Two pints for £3.50 - Tim knows how to drive a thriving business :-)
As I understand it the Quay went for a fair sum so I guess he couldnt say no. Shame I liked that the two tiers worked well, kids downstairs adults upstairs.
I think one of the problems Beales may have had in Poole is that in general shopping has left the Arndale, there are no many out of Town (and not that far) shops around with free and easy parking. Add to that the double whammy of EHI and min wage (and the forthcoming employer changes thanks to Big Ange and its time to close the doors.
