If everyone stopped paying the licence fee "they" would have to get their heads together and come up with different funding model. PDQ

The BBC has been allowed (encouraged) to become too big and powerful. It would be a disaster for journalists, technical and production staff, actors if it was reduced to (say) just two channels. It would be a disaster for the independent sector if it was paid for by advertising, taking their revenues, already reduced to online and streaming. I don't think there's a simple answer.

09:58 yes it's not as simple as it first appears is it.

maybe there's just an over supply of meeja & a bit of slimming down wouldn't go amiss.

 // online and streaming. //

that's probably the future of broadcast entertainment and maybe it's time for all providers (BBC included) to get used to the idea that traditional TV has had its day.

Nobody will notice any more, it's not like we only have two TV broadcasters and a couple of radio stations to choose from.

It seems more like a place that men aren't welcome and it exists to promote buzz words like 'toxic', 'potential' and 'tough'.

All a bit twee and fey.

Neither. If the government still feels it has value as a window on us for the world, or a creator of quality unfettered by the financial pressures of the market, then it should fund it out of general taxation.

^^^ agreed
