I'd give them no actual cash at all. Accomodation + food vouchers, that's it. The have to learn that they cannot be parasites to the rest of us.

@12:36.  I agree entirely and this is something I had advocated for many years.

Not a penny cash, and a food parcel delivered by ASDA (or whoever) with standard items to sustain not vouchers that would be exchenged for cash.

but you don't seem to mind paying for hotels for the gimmigrants,but when it comes to our own you call them parasites.must be very rewarding going to work paying your taxes.only to see them being given away.i worked for over 50 yrs,but i would not do it a again.we need to get our country back free of gimmigrants then work for a country worth working for

I can't think where you got that from Tommy.  I think most people do mind paying for hotels for immigrants.  That doesn't make the scroungers who won't work any less scroungers.

We used to have truancy  officers for school refuseniks.  Usually formidable ladies who would haul recalcitrant teenagers out of bed and get them to school.

How about a new force of Truancy Officers to do the same (officially) to the NEETS?

The Officer would be armed with a list of local job-gaps which needed filling and dump the wastrels there.  Otherwise, stop their benefits, but give them a shortlist of jobs to apply forinstead.

This could well affect my family - can't see my 15 yr-old Grandson being any use at the moment - he won't even go to school!  Oh for a few of the very formidable ladies I used to know!

What employer would be prepared to take anyone on under those circumstances?

They'd be on long term sick with stress and claiming compo for some trumped up grievance within weeks

I'm pretty sure most of the boaters WOULD work if they were allowed to, and for a lot less than 40k. The WSS have no good excuses.

i have never once claimed benefits and i do not for a minute feel any hostility to those that do.

i have a lot of sympathy for ttt's idea of providing the unemployed with basic housing and food without cash... i think in many ways this would actually be more supportive and effective than what we currently do.

And yet there are young people working in shops, cafes and restaurants, public transport, councils offices, gyms and community centres. Maybe some of them have more realistic ideas about work and careers.

09:49 yes it would hopefully make them get off their Aprils and support themselves. Also their saucepans would be more encouraged to do better once they became aware of what useless parents they had.
