Rare good idea from the lib non dems. Does my head in when some eejit thinks I want to listen to his/her carp. Should be applicable in all public spaces. I was in the pub the other day and some moron was watching some tripe without head phones.

Would this apply to children playing noisy games on phones and tablets in pubs, cafés etc?;

definintely, their parents would be fined.

Where do you stop

What about people talking at  a 'thousand' decibels on their phone on public transport !

People talking loudly to their companion? Guffawing at funny bits of the book they're reading?

The worst noise for me is people clicking and picking at their nails. It could send me in to rage

I was in the pub the other day, was trying to watch my program but I forgot my headphones.  So old moron wouldn't stop complaining!!

// A Department for Transport spokesperson said: "There are already strict rules in place to prevent anti-social behaviour on public transport, including possible fines of up to £1,000." //

yes, but local instructions (on trains, at least) tell staff not to confront or attempt to enforce as the risk assessment identifies a good chance of abuse or assault. I don't suppose a LibDem law change will make any difference.

You need to look at it from both sides.

Give a little and take a little!

13:15, nail them too if you ask me. They can talk quietly, usually I just text them back anyway saying I'll call later.

Question Author

13:23 yes but they are not doing that, they could talk quietly but no it's at 100 decibels so it grates on the ear.

Imposing a racket on others is just bad manners.  If only inconsiderate people were fitted with an 'off' switch.

Question Author

pity there's not an app that can shut down a near by phone! I'd buy it!

why don't they use headphones for music and headphones with a mic when talking on the phone.

Question Author

because they are self obsessed morons.

i don't think things should be illegal just because they are annoying.

i absolutely cannot abide people who talk on the phone on public transport. for many people it seems to be their main entertainment on a train. i do not however think things i find annoying should be criminalized!

You can't convince me that fare dodgers, regardless of method, aren't already subject to a fine.

If they aren't already being charged how can a specific law to cover that which is already legislated for, help ?
