Yes, as I've said before, sadly every well-intentioned initiative gets exploited unfairly by a selfish few. But we shouldn't give up IMHO, we should just outlaw irrelevant misuse (yes, difficult, but life isn't easy).

Few?

Question Author

indeed "few?" - every non white person now knows how to get their own way. I see it every day.

How did the man in this case, "get his own way"?

He didn't get his own way

no - but he probably incurred costs (to the public) in a futile attempt to do so.

He would have to cover his own costs and possible depending on the decision some of the costs from the other side.

The heading is 'not' getting your own way at work - and he didn't.

My question followed TORATORATORA's claim, "every non white person now knows how to get their own way."

Playing the race card is far from unknown and it very often works. This time it didn't.

Quoting directly from the Daily Express article:-

‘Most of the incidents took place in autumn 2021 when the majority of his team were working remotely following the pandemic, which led to him being placed on a strict timetable, requiring him to document his objectives and achievements each day.’

If as the article suggests he was the only member of staff placed on a strict timetable, requiring him to document has objectives and achievements each day – regardless of the colour of his skin (or whether he went shopping etc during work time), I would expect him to win a claim for discrimination.

"The heading is 'not' getting your own way at work - and he didn't. "

You missed out the question mark (showing the importance of correct punctution).

Posing that as a question, it gives me the impression "Not getting your own way at work? [Here's how to try].

"If as the article suggests he was the only member of staff placed on a strict timetable...I would expect him to win a claim for discrimination."

Why? Discrimination means unjustly treating a person or people differenly to others (usually - but not necessarily - on the basis of something unrelated to that treatment).

His manager had concerns about his performance. She was entitled - in fact duty bound - to address those concerns (the clue being in her title: "manager"). The action she took was designed to cure them. Are you saying she should not be enitled to treat people in her team who are not performing to the required standard differently to those who are? If not, there's little point in people being managed. They should just get their pay at the end of each month and largely do what they want.

10:13, 10:04 etc no he did not get his own way but the point of this post that that he thinks he should have because he's black. That's the point and it's endemic in the country. Thanks to those bright enough to see the real issue here.

hymie: "If as the article suggests he was the only member of staff placed on a strict timetable, requiring him to document has objectives and achievements each day" - poor hymie, lives in a parallel universe. Yes he was being micro managed, they do that in business when they are doing their best not to fire someone for being useless. It seems that this chap was a serial skiver and poor performer and thus he was being micro managed. Look it up.

Sadly it is a card regularly played.  Hopefully the tide will turn as it does not good the the majority of Black people who do not play it and work hard.

I've been to a few "team building" activities.

He probably made the right call.
