Perhaps time to impose swingeing tariffs (100%+) on Russian goods until Putin comes on board with the peace plan (which does not involve Ukraine’s total surrender).
Even so, I suppose it was a noble ambition.

Trump pretends to be strong but he is a mouse compared to Putin's lion- he hasn't got the guts to tackle Putin.
I'd love to see Europe and UK or some similar alliance now strike a minerals deal with Ukraine in return for military peace keeping support (which Russia will call warmongering but let's just ignore them). You never know, US might want a piece of the action and make some proper efforts to influence things
I've given up trying to figure out what America is trying to do as regards Ukraine.
What I believe is this.
1. Putin does not want peace, and will not stop at Ukraine. He wants to reconstruct as much of the old USSR as he can.
2. America doesn't care what happens in Europe any more. I don't consider them to be an ally. Trump has got enough on his plate dismantling democracy over there and NATO as we have known it is over.
We have no idea if that minerals deal exists or will happen or what it means for the war OG.
Trump may hear what he perceives as compliment from Putin or an insult from Zelensky or vice versa and change his mind tomorrow if he even knows what's going on today.
Like the tariffs. Sheer unpredictable stupidity.
It's beginning to look like he just wanted the US out of conflict with Russia, (must be costly in time & wealth to do the right thing), and to grab whatever he could from Ukraine, (might is right and only the strongest survive). If this is so, one can only hope his moral standards are not typical of the whole nation.
Reality here on Earth seems to be mirroring the situation in the Dune trilogy more and more. (Or possibly Game of Thrones, but I've never read nor watched that.) So much for the dream of peaceful cooperation and support between all human beings/nations. That's clearly not happening at any time soon. Indeed we do not seem to have moved on much during all the time humans have been here.
Donald Trump’s trade policies, launched under the slogan ‘Making America Great Again’ have instead sparked economic disruption, geopolitical instability, and strategic confusion. Far from securing America’s economic and national interests, these policies are actively undermining both.
Although Trump’s tariffs are billed as a strategy to rejuvenate domestic manufacturing, correct trade imbalances, and reignite national pride, the real-world outcomes have been far more damaging than beneficial.
Peter Navarro, Trump’s chief trade advisor, stated, ‘All America wants is fairness.’ That may be true, but fairness should begin with facts. According to the most recent Heritage Foundation Global Trade Freedom Index, which assesses how freely nations participate in global commerce, the US ranks a disappointing 69th out of 184 countries: behind Singapore (1st), Australia (3rd), the UK (17th), and Canada (18th). Even Uzbekistan, ranked 24th, outperforms the US......

//Has Trump ever said a bad thing about Putin?//
No. He has nothing but praise for him, and in fact all dictators with the exception of Xi. He wasn't keen on Kim Jong un at first but they're buddies now.
Compare and contrast with the countries he's supposed to be allies with and he barely stops insulting them, notably threatening to invade them in the case of Canada and Greenland.
