//I show  respect and sorrow to anyone who has passed away no matter who they are .//

Except for the street parties and singing of 'ding dong the witch is dead' when a certain ex PM dies

^died

11.34.But at least you don't think that to remember them is distasteful.

Gulliver doesn't seem to be following this conversation very well.

except MT perhaps gulliver.

i am like barry, ambivalent.  happy to support people's right to do this (and it was very moving IMO seeing people's pictures; the national aboretum is just lovely) but might not doit myself

11.35 ..Millions celebrated when hitler died and held street partys also. When they realised how much damage he had done to Britain.Could you blame them.?

^ I think they were celebrating more the end of the war, rather than one person's death. I think they'd have preferred Hitler to be punished in some other way..

anyone know why 5th was chosen?

Naomi 11.43 "Gulliver doesn't seem to be following this conversation very well".........."Is it just me who finds this distasteful".............????  Who wrote  that ???

// the fifth anniversary of the start of the pandemic //

yes, but how did whover decide that the 5th march was the date - was it officially declared a pandemic then?  i cant recall.

Question Author

I can't remember either.

Bednobs, all I can find is the WHO officially declared a pandemic on March 11th.

The covid deaths were not avoidable but the destruction of the economy and damage to young peoples lives was.

The human tragedy continues unabated.

This year's COVID Day of Reflection is on Sunday, 9 March.

From the link below. Perhaps the closest weekend to the 11th?

Only gulliver could bring hitler into a thread about covid and marking the fifth anniversary.

Much of this thread demonstrates the benefit of hindsight!

When was it that Boris Johnson gave a news conference saying, amongst other things, we should all stay at home?
