Probably because he thinks he's ending the war, therefore there's no reason for them to remain in the US..

I thought the whole point of refugee status is that they are fleeing conflict.  When the conflict is over, home you go.

But will it be over. If the Ukrainian people don't accept the sell out of their country then hostilities may still continue even if certain nations may claim it's officially over.

Perhaps you can be too accomodating; A golf-friend of mine went to Poland when the war started & actually brought 50 Ukrainian refugees to Gemany in his own bus (he owns 45) He took in to his own house a mother & a child & the grandmother. 

The husband, an electrical engineer - much needed in Ukraine got out to join them here later by paying 500 € bribe to the border guards, - the going rate. 

The whole menage was driving my friend's wife crazy & produced marital problems which culminated in her leaving.

The boy is in school & they have no intention of going back because Germany is better.

And the moral is............ I'm not sure.

the USA has also banned ukraine from accessing its military intelligence and banned countries like france or the uk from sharing it which has made defence against russian air strikes and drone attacks far more difficult

We have to hope so.

It would be nice if America had a President who had even a basic grasp of politics and diplomacy, instead of one who thinks politics is the same as business, and 'fixing' things is simply a concept to feed his galaxy-sized ego.

It's nothing to do with Trump thinking he's ending the war. It's a hostile move to put more pressure on Ukraine on top of cutting the supply of arms and intelligence info.

Any peace will only be temporary anyway. Putin will continue to try and take the whole country when he thinks he can, and Trump seems happy for him to do that.

i read an article in the most recent LRB which pointed out that if the peace "deal" looks anything like the istanbul proposal some years ago then it will amount to a full surrender of ukraine with russia having the right to invade again whenever it pleases... 

that is not a recipe for peace and it will not stop the violence... it will end the resistance to violence only

Whenever Trump is asked a question about something he knows nothing about (which happens a lot), he invariably replies that he is looking into it, and that some people say we (America) should do one thing, and that others are saying we should do the opposite – Trump ends by saying he will look further into the issue and make his decision.

 

This was his stock answer that he gave (in the press conference) when asked about the Ukrainian refugee situation.

 

I should add that sometimes when Trump is asked a question about something he knows nothing – he announces that he is the world’s expert on the subject, and that no one knows more about the subject that him.
