//There will be a four-day celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, including a flypast, concert and a Westminster Abbey service, the government has announced.

The commemorations, marking 80 years since the end of World War Two in Europe, will run from the Bank Holiday Monday on 5 May, until 8 May.//

Lovely!  Something to lift the spirits of what has become a gloomy nation.

Big events like that generate a lot of money though, maggiebee.  People come from all over the world to join in.

We'll take it out of the Blue woader support budget maggie.

Wonderful!

Providing Russia isn't at war with NATO and/or Europe.

That was my first thought, Alba.

Nice of Lisa Nandy and her cohorts to spend other peoples money on this- I'd much rather she spent it on this than the normal Labour vanity projects. Celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day is important—we honour the sacrifices made for our freedom. But let’s not ignore the invasions since then. Not by armies in uniform, but by waves of illegal migrants crossing our borders unchecked. What was fought for in 1945 is being surrendered today, not least by this and successive governments.

and only one day - 8th May 1945 at the time er 1945

I  think my father had been liberated, and swished home on a conveyor belt ( Prisoners in the East were terrified of being herded into a Gulag) and RTU'd

( AB quipster - "what gulag? - is dat fin soup of something? - what wrong wiv date den?)

My mudda ( Mile end hospital ) was outside Buckingham Palace shouting - "where is our King?"  - not one flower in the bed was squeeshed. Everything looked so worn out and drab

Won't the Germans think that this is a bit tasteless, inconsiderate?

If people get a day off or something else then great. Otherwise they couldn't give a sheet.
