He bargains for everything and if there's nothing in it for America he's not interested. If he would give some guarantee to Zelenskyy that America will, in exchange for mineral rights, offer support, the agreement would probably gave been signed. However, the question remains 'what's in it for Ukraine?' - and that's what I think Zelenskyy is asking. Who seriously can blame him?
zelensky did not instigate this war... putin did. if trump wants to talk to somebody about ending it he should be addressing the kremlin
the "minerals deal" amounts to the USA carving up the country with russia. russia gets the east, USA gets rare earths and gigantic payments. trump's plan would turn what remained of ukraine into a colony and embolden russia to try again in the baltics in 7 years.
the man is not fit to be president. he is a demented old man who cannot control his emotions and preys on the weak.
Trump is a man who cares about the country he was elected to run, why can't we have a government that cares about us, instead of flying around the world signing stupid green deals, paying b.m.w 65 million pounds to make electric minis that no one wants, funding wars that are not our problem, fine by me Ukraine not joining nato, just do something about people waiting 20 hrs or more in corridors of hospitals etc ,etc, but hey ho let's not worry about our country, I think perhaps Trump is a politician Naomi, and if only we could have someone like him that actually cares about the people he was elected to represent.
douglas9401, what could trump personally get out of it, he's already rich, noble peace prize perhaps, doubt he cares about one, i think he really does want a deal thats good for america and why not, no such thing as a free lunch, the war has to end and only america can make it happen, putin hates the eu..
Well, I asume I missed the fireworks; but one thing for sure, capitulation is no way to peace. It sometimes seems that some are happy, maybe even pushing for, a mirror situation to those already created elsewhere; in places like Israel, for example. Where there is oppressed there will be people who consider themselves freedom fighters. Where there are bullies there will be a target on their back.
It seems to me to be incredibly naive to assume that giving Russia what it wants, because neither of the other two world powers want to fight for a fairer decent world, won't result in other areas of the world taking the hint and chucking their conscripts into a meat grinder in pursuit of the glory of extending their borders. It likely wouldn't even stop Russia even, given tbe rest of Eurasia isn't a Greater Russia: yet.
In addition it is very sad to read some actually advocate ingoring the moral viewpoints and advocate that we all should just get out and let the bullied be bullied.
First they came for the Communists, but I didn't want to help as I saw no value for me in it so preached that it was a lost cause, the bullied should be ashamed, and we ought not be a money machine. Then they came for the Socialists, but I didn't want to help as I saw no value for me in it so preached that it was a lost cause, the bullied should be ashamed, and we ought not ...
I'm glad you didn't waffle. Unfortunately by trying to be brief you didn't state the situation accurately.
America and Europe should fund opposition to an aggressive power sufficiently to stop it before anyone is bankrupted. In any case further sanctions and ensuring they are adhered to would likely bring things to a suitable conclusion. To not do so simply makes for a worse situation in the future.
