Mandelson's Conversion
It seems that Mandelson believes that we should embrace Brexit, as there will not be another referendum.

. In good King Charles' golden time, when loyalty no harm meant,
A zealous high churchman was I, and so I gained preferment.
To teach my flock, I never missed: Kings are by God appointed
And damned are those who dare resist or touch the Lord's annointed.
   (Chorus):
And this be law, that I'll maintain until my dying day, sir
That whatsoever king may reign, Still I'll be the Vicar of Bray, sir.
2. When royal James possessed the crown, and popery came in fashion,
The penal laws I hooted down, and read the Declaration.
The Church of Rome, I found, did fit full well my constitution
And I had been a Jesuit, but for the Revolution.
  Â
   (Chorus)
3. When William was our King declared, to ease the nation's grievance,
With this new wind about I steered, and swore to him allegiance.
Old principles I did revoke; Set conscience at a distance,
Passive obedience was a joke, a jest was non-resistance.
  Â
   (Chorus)
4. When Royal Anne became our queen, the Church of England's glory,
Another face of things was seen, and I became a Tory.
Occasional conformists base; I blamed their moderation;
And thought the Church in danger was from such prevarication.
  Â
   (Chorus)
5. When George in pudding time came o'er, and moderate men looked big, sir
My principles I changed once more, and I became a Whig, sir.
And thus preferment I procured From our new Faith's Defender,
And almost every day abjured the Pope and the Pretender.
  Â
   (Chorus)
6. The illustrious house of Hanover and Protestant succession
To these I do allegiance swear -- while they can hold possession.
For in my faith and loyalty I never more will falter,
And George my lawful king shall be -- until the times do alter.

Most sensible remain voters have accepted the result. It's just the idiots like Hymie, guliver and teacake that keep going on about it. many remainers even agree that to rejoin would mean that we would have such conditions imposed that they would not want to. I applaud their maturity as much as I deride the fools who think we can still rejoin.
“It's funny, not long ago he was calling Trump a lot of unpleasant things, now he's trying to crawl up his jaxy. Must be in the genes!”
In the case of Mr Lammy, I was an extra portion of chicken which did the job.
Unfortunately I would not believe Mr Mandelson if he told me the sun was going to rise tomorrow morning – not before I’d looked to check that it had, anyway. Whatever he might say, as recently as last October he was still viewing Brexit as a damage limitation exercise to be reversed as soon as decenly possible:
“He said that in the meantime it was essential for the UK’s productivity and growth to reduce the damaging impact of the Brexit deal struck by Boris Johnson ‘as best we possibly can’.”
It’s a great pity he and his co-conspirators did not enjoy their Damascene conversions a little earlier. We may hen have seen a little less of this nonsense:
“Peter Mandelson, the former European trade commissioner and senior minister in the Labour governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, launched an aggressive tirade against Theresa May's Brexit deal Sunday, calling for a second referendum on Britain's EU membership.”
He was quite right to criticise Mrs May’s appalling deal which she tried to foist on the electorate, but his plan was to knock Brexit on the head entirely, not to improve the terms under which we left.
However, I think I understand why he has now seen the light. As a former EU Commissioner he obviously harboured dreams of returning to that well remunerated sanctuary one day. However, he has now found a new sinecure as “our man in Washington” (and a more unsuitable person for the job would be hard to imagine).
But he is now 71 and his job in Washington will take him towards his 75th birthday, when hopefully he will disappear from view to spend more time counting his money.
