Isn't seven years enough? Pull it down and erect a monument.

It's how these things work.

There will always be people for and against every decision.

Agree with you - 7 years is more than enough.

It should have been demolished as soon as the forensics were completed. No messing.

I agree, it helps no one leaving it up.

Tear it down and build a garden area/monument and let peple move on.

I don't think a monument is needed, that's hardly useful. Maybe a plaque somewhere if felt needed. Build decent housing, or find a new use for the space.

I would go for genuinely affordable housing; preferably not a high-rise.

A small garden of remembrance surrounded by medium-rise housing ought to be the way to go.

It was an eyesore before.  Time to move on.

Yes, JtH, that is the best possible solution.  I'm just not nsure how the noisy minority would take any housnig being put on the site though.

Have to disagree.  Firstly some need a focal point anf this will give it to them, secondly if you dont it looks like you are totally burying it.  It doesnt have to be like Nelsons Column, more Manneken Pis sie.

Yes, it is time to demolish it.   It could be replaced with a quiet space - a memorial garden perhaps.

Enough about Grenfell. Time to pull it down and leave some sort of sculpture or monument there.  A monstrous carbuncle as Charlie would say.

Must have pulled on their big person pants at Westminster.

I wonder if the news channels will devote a day to it as the job nears completion.

I think a plaque in a small garden area with seating would be appropriate. Use the rest of the space for decent housing.

Time to move on.

But for gods sake leave an open space. Do not build something else on it.

People need homes, not memorial gardens.

Let's build another tower there then atheist. It's valuable real estate after all. No use crying over spilt milk etc etc.

I don't think that people want homes in the sky. Rich ambitious childless people might like that, but ordinary people with families might prefer something else. If your house burnt down because of cowboy builders who cut corners, would you like some new cowboys moving in to put up another similar place?

//would you like some new cowboys moving in to put up another similar place?//

No. Which is why I said leave an open space and not build on it at 21.45.

The need for housing stock outstrips other considerations. Whatever is built there will have to be multi-storied but it need not be a high-rise. A memorial garden or play area dedicated to those who died would be appropriate and also of benefit to new residents.
