“If he's entitled to compensation under the law then he should receive it.”But he’s not entitled to it. The government is considering changing the law. Khandro – as a resident of Germany, are you advocating on social media platforms within Germany that they leave the ECHR, or is this just something you are encouraging gullible UK residents to support?

I think the ECHR is not fit for purpose - for anybody.

"....or is this just something you are encouraging gullible UK residents to support?"

There is nothing gullible about seeking to leave the ECHR - as this thread demonstrates.

It was drawn up over seventy years ago to address a problem that wasn't likely to arise even then and is far less likely now. It was scarcely required then and is even less relevant now.

Mr Adams and his colleagues wreaked enormous damage, suffering, misery and inconvenience across the UK. Something had to be done to curtail that.

As I said earlier, the government of the day could not be bound by normal rules as those causing the havoc had no intention of complying with them. The notion that the government (and particularly the taxpayers) of today should somehow remedy what was a necessary measure to combat an unprecedented situation because they are hidebound by a seventy year old Convention that never was fit for purpose and certainly isn't now, is preposterous.
