did nobody think what might happen if it got cold?

Think?  this bunch?

Not on your Nellie.

Ideology before common sense.

Don't worry, we will eventually be a clean energy super-power.

And after spending eleventy trillion on becoming that super-power, we will get 300 quid off our energy bill.

Of course we will. 🙄

Question Author

from the BBC:- // The government said it monitors energy levels and says it has "all tools" at its disposal "if needed to secure our supply".//

yeh they could erect some scaffolding towers next to a few windmills, and get some MPs to climb up and blow on the windmill vanes. that would do it, wouldn't it? there's certainly little to no wind to turn them at the moment.

Currently

Gas 54.7%

Solar 1.1%

Wind 9.3%

Hydro 1.5%

Nuclear 10.9

Biomass 5.8%

So what is mad Milliband doing, oh yes building more Windmills and Solar.  Gurning idiot.

When the chickens finally come home to roost, there will be a lot of denial and finger pointing. Lessons will be learned etc.

Get this   ...   when the windmills are idle because there is no wind, and it is freezing, they need to be supplied with power to stop them from seizing up and self destructing if the wind starts to blow again. When they cut off families because of the lack of generated electricity they priorites the windmills that are standing idle. Now if that is not madness I don't know what is. We were cut of twice this morning in this area and the hundreds of windmills out, at sea that were standing still, had power supplied to them.

When the  turkeys finally come home to roost, there will be a lot of denial and finger pointing. Lessons will be learned etc.

we have to be free of reliance on Russian cheap natural gas as all they need to do is..... turn off the taps - - - oops sozza Putin has already done that. Phew ABers will think I am psychic

as poor old Merkel said on exit " I have been wrong for 20 y" - she recognised Russia's potential and deecided the only way was trade and industrialise it

oops - - mega -oops

Just a question -- since we already seem to be able to learn the lessons that will have to be learned when the availability of power grinds to a halt - why can't we learn them before it grinds to a halt?  Am I being simplistic?

//Am I being simplistic?//

Nope that is what is called "being a far right climate change denier and all round environmental pollution advocate". So There.

"Currently

Gas 54.7%

Solar 1.1%

Wind 9.3%"

Now (10:15pm):

Gas 57%

Solar 0%

Wind 4%

Those two at the bottom have cost the country £200bn so far. "Mad" Ed Miliband plans on spending four times as much again as the amount already spent on solar and five times as much as already spent on wind.

So for a cool £1trillion or thereabouts, on nights like tonight, with a bit of luck and a following gentle breeze, we might get 20% of demand. Providing demand doesn't go up too much, that is.
