Will understand the predicament.
Local council want to knock down 10 high-rise flats here in sunny stoke....
One of which I happen to live in.
Every tenent has recieved a form indicating that if the council makes you intentionally
homeless, then you are entiteled to a £7000 grant.
Does that then mean that you will have to find alternative accommodation
(IE Social housing, or that the council will accommodate you and the £7000 will be for removal, furnishings, carpets etc?)

The £7k is for carpets, curtains, and any appliances and furniture that will not transfer to new accomadation

We have a damp problem (apparenty)
Moved into my flat about 10 yrs ago.
Bit of damp in the corners, solved it by painting a bit of damp proofing on it. Never had a problem since.
But the council want to knock it all down now.
There are 10 block across the city that they want to knock down.
No idea where they are going to rehouse near enough 400 residents
when they cant rehome the local homeless????

Sounds good on one level, but on the other although obliged to rehouse you, the Council are not compelled to give you a choice of location. I would be asking where they intend to re-home you and checking out the effect that it is going to have on your working, family, and social life. You can't be too agressive about it though, because they can offer you accomadation and if you refuse it you have made yourself homeless. Are there any new council developements being built locally, right now, that you are aware of?
You will be sound Nails. I would think that demolishing the buildings is somewhere down the road a little way. You may find though that as people move out, or pop their clogs, that the Council does not re-let the flats. They will likely leave any vacant pads empty, which can be a bit of a bind, and boarded up. Doesn't stop the squaters or thieves making a nuisance of themselves though.
Nailit, I would potentially seek some housing advice. I think this is known as a "home loss payment", but (I could be wrong) my understanding is that you might be able to negotiate for more.
See if there is a local charity in your area that offers
a law clinic (in my area there is a law clinic which is run my local barrister volunteers) or see if Shelter can help.
